DIY Liposomal C - Fast, Effective, Cheap, Make in your Kitchen Liposomal C
Tools required

Blender $20 (any kitchen blender)
Ultrasonic cleaner $150 ( [link to www.ebay.com (secure)] )

Ingredients required

L-Ascorbic Acid Powder $20 ( [link to www.ebay.com (secure)] )
Sunflower Lecitin $15 ( [link to www.ebay.com (secure)] )
Baking Soda $1

Method

This makes about 100 doses of 1000mg/each liposomal c

Pint Jar #1 (C Powder in Water)
Measure 8 level tablespoons (tbs) of L-Ascorbic Acid Powder into a pint jar. This will be 96 grams of powder more or less.

Add an equivalent amount of water to the L-Ascorbic Acid powder, and swish it around. It won't dissolve completely, don't worry about it.

Pint Jar #2 (Baking Soda in Water)
Add a single tablespoon of Baking Soda to a second pint jar.
Add 4 ounces of water (half full) and stir till the Baking Soda dissolves.

Turn the Ascorbic Acid into Sodium Ascorbate... mostly
Pour a little of the Baking Soda water into the Ascorbic Acid water while gently swishing the Ascorbic Acid jar.

It will foam up and you will get a lot of CO2 coming off. Smells like when you open a bottle of Perrier. Its not at all dangerous in this quantity.

Continue to pour the Baking Soda water bit by bit into the Ascorbic Acid until you have used about 3/4 of the Baking Soda jar. Continue swishing the L-Ascorbic Adic jar until there is no more bubbling.

You will no longer need the Baking Soda or the jar its in, just dump it in the sink.

This process will take a minute or two and be about an 80% reaction. This makes the C much easier on the body when you take it in high doses.

Add the Phospholipids!
Now measure 8 even tbs of Sunflower Lecithin into the jar of buffered Ascorbic Acid and water.

Put a plastic lid on the jar and gently swish it back and forth for a minute or two. The Lecithin will still be clumpy, but completely wet.

Blend

Now pour the pint of buffered C + Lecithin into the blender. The mixture is slimy at this point, and a bit tends to stay in the jar. Just add a little more water to the jar, place the lid on, and shake it a little... pour the remainder in the blender with the rest.

Blend the mixture on medium for about 5 minutes. Some blenders are very powerful and if set on too high, can heat the mixture significantly. You do not want the mixture to heat. Keep the blender on medium or low if necessary.

Ultra-Sonic it!

Now set up your ultra-sonic cleaner and fill the bath with water.

Pour the C mixture out of the blender into a beaker or into the pint jar you just mixed it in.

Set the jar containing the mixture into the ultrasonic cleaner bath.

Glass should not touch the stainless steel bath pan of the cleaner, so either buy a cleaner that has a little jar holder (like this one: [link to www.ebay.com (secure)] ) or just nestle a dish towel into the ultrasonic cleaner bath around the jar such that it completely supports the jar.

Set the cleaner for a 15 minute cycle and let it do its thing.

HEAT: Again, this mixture cannot get hot. You don't even want it particularly warm. Some ultrasonic cleaners have heater settings, turn these off. Other ultrasonic cleaners sort of automatically heat the bath (via induction). If this is the case with yours, just add ice to the bath. Keep it cool.

Also, remember not to put your finger in the cleaner bath while it is on. There is a lot of sonic energy in there, and it can induce air bubbles in the blood in your finger... among other things. Its not a huge danger, but, you know, just turn the thing off if you want to check the temp with your finger.

Round 2

Now just pour the mixture back into the blender and give it another 5 minute whirl.

Finally put it in the ultrasonic cleaner again for a second 15 minute jostle.

Pour into a clean pint jar, cover with a plastic lid, and refrigerate.

Drink Up!

At this point you have a real, and very good liposomal c. In manufacturing there are other steps to stabilize, dry, emulsify or other things. But this is the essence of the process.

Use a plastic lid on the jar, as the Ascorbic Acid reacts strongly with metal.

There are 96 Teaspoons in a pint, and we used 96ish grams of L-Ascorbic Acid, so if you add a bit of water to your finished Liposomal C so that it makes a full pint, your dosing will be 1 gram liposomal C per teaspoon.

Storage / Shelf-Life

My experience is that this can last about a month in the fridge. I usually use it in about 2 weeks.

Of course, you can make half this amount very easily if you won't use as much as I do.

Price

After you make the initial investment of the blender and the ultra-sonic cleaner, the price per gram (the way I buy it on ebay) is about $.02 a gram (not including labor)... which is awesome!

Yes, and I want to mention that there are many "recipes" for liposomal C online that are not that good, or that give you a bunch of unnecessarily complicated steps, etc. Not sure if this is controlled dis-info or, lack of experience or what.

But, this is the simplest approach I can give you, and it makes a great, effective product.

Yes, that is exactly what you need.

Sometimes, the bath on these is tiny, but if the bath on your cleaner is large enough to hold the bottom half of a pint jar, you should be fine!

Right, it is much more readily available now that it used to be for sure.

The cheapest I can find on Amazon is about $.20 per gram of C, and this recipe is about 1 tenth that cost.

Also, I can easily store 20 kilos of Ascorbic Acid and equal amounts (by volume) of lecithin. With that I can have lipo-c even during the fall shutdown / asteroid apocalypse / whatever.

Yep I got a question:

A. Can you freeze it for later use?

B. Do you think it would lose its nutritional value if you put it in a freeze dryer to make it into a powder for later use? I need to make some and send both varieties to a lab for testing.

I use the recipe with ever clear and blend and ultrasonic for 30 minutes each in stages. Not sure how that will freeze though. I'm working on perfecting my mixture.

I'm also interested in adding lysine and proline powder to the mixture, I need to determine the amounts. That's a future project.

I'll give this one a try. I bought my ultrasonic cleaner many years ago when it was around $80 for a nice one. It's mainly used for the wife's jewelry.

These instructions sound like the result is better because I didn't like the other ones that use vodka and end up with a lot of alcohol in the liquid. Also I have sodium ascorbate already so I can skip a step. cool2

I have not tried this, but I am pretty sure it would break the liposomes.

By far the best way to store liposomal-c for the long term in to buy the dried and capsulized stuff. It is very stable.

B. Do you think it would lose its nutritional value if you put it in a freeze dryer to make it into a powder for later use? I need to make some and send both varieties to a lab for testing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73235942

Again, I believe that freeze drying would destroy the liposome. That said, experimentation is always the best teacher! All manufacturers that I know of either heat / air dry it, or they partially dehydrate it and mix it into a gel base.

I use the recipe with ever clear and blend and ultrasonic for 30 minutes each in stages. Not sure how that will freeze though. I'm working on perfecting my mixture.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73235942

I do not use alcohol in this recipe since I don't need much shelf life, but I believe that the alcohol does make a more stable liposome.

I'm also interested in adding lysine and proline powder to the mixture, I need to determine the amounts. That's a future project.

Oh, and both lysine and proline would both interact with the liposome production... but not in a bad way, I think. As I queried above, it seems that the lysine might help liposome formation and proline might protect the liposome, making it longer lasting. Those are just my educated guesses.

Experimentation is the only real teacher.

I make mine with Everclear and put it directly in the commercial ultrasonic machine.

30 mins in blender, 30 mins in Ultrasonic machine, but I do it over a long time so it doesn't heat up too much.
Takes forever.

Hard to say if it works or not.

I am going to throw some in a harvest right freeze dryer and send it off to a lab to be tested to see if it says viable.
Gotta find a lab.

Actual scientific studies have been done, and liposomal C has not shown any benefit over plain Ascorbic acid. The only important thing, is that it is L-Ascorbic acid, because the body can't use the other kind.

So you don't need to do what OP says, but on the bright side, it won't do any harm either!

There are not articles linked here (of course), but from personal experience, I believe that liposomal C is 4 to 8 times as effective as regular C. Yes, 400% to 800%.

Not only that, but I can take much more before bowel tolerance is reached.

Finally, there are many medications that use liposomal delivery specifically because the method is so bio-available. There absolutely are studies on those preparations.

So, yeah, I completely disagree with the above post.
