Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79044425 The last experiment (CHOP) caused the death of a couple of black teenagers. And you notice that has been basically ignored. CHOP was an encampment of marxist revolutionaries in a "lord of the flies" tradition..... Defunding the police will be city sanctioned and endorsed by the citizens that live there.....all legit regardless of its foolishness.... NYC's black leaders are already calling for a "refunding" of its police.....apparently the anticrime unit that was disbanded in a kneejerk reaction served a purpose.....shootings and crimes have skyrocket in the city....black leaders are saying defunding the police adversely affects the black and brown neighborhoods....imagine that.....lol.... I expect the same to happen in Seattle....its all fun and social justice till the liberal citizens are too busy dodging criminals to go protesting..... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51891917 Mobs of blacks will soon be killing 24/7 365. I'm not getting this blacks killing all the white people when there are no police. It's actually the other way around when the SHTF for reelz. Blacks have been protected for over a half century by white police enforcing their special status. For those common core idiots out there, the civil war was fought and won by whites against whites to free blacks from slavery. I guess it's going go full circle and history will repeat itself all over again and again...... ENJOY! |

Russia went through this in the 90s. The country was broke. No resources for policing. Crime rate sky-high. People needed protection. Mafia stepped-in to provide protection from itself. Anonymous Coward User ID: 76654640 United States 07/30/2020 11:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | cops hiding in the shadows with a radar gun?? defund. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78083827 cops over-watching construction workers? defund. cops patrolling hiking trails or rec areas? defund. cops setting up barricades in the hope some criminal might come though? defund. the list goes on and on and on...but.. Cops patrolling high crime areas? FUND Cops responding to violence? FUND Cops maintaining the peace in a large crowd? FUND So then we certainly need the police, but like half of what they are currently doing are things they shouldn't be doing. Alot of the things people dislike or hate about police happens because the cops are put in places and situations they shouldn't be in, as they are unqualified for anything except maintaining the peace through intimidation and threats of violence. Change my mind its open to new information. So you're a criminal, who slings herion at your construction job, and regularly speeds through school zones, and you like to take your kidnapping victims bodies and hide them on infrequently used hiking trails.... Gotcha... No, I think he's saying there are sometimes too many cops with too little crime. When that's the case, cops become a nuisance. But there are time and places where cops are needed. I agree with his post entirely. |

It cuts 681 of the 755 officers. Seven of nine council members have voiced support for cutting SPD’s budget in half, a veto-proof majority. Quoting: Mr. Predictor This is what happens when people vote in radicals [link to mynorthwest.com (secure)] Sawant pointed out that 19 of the top 200 highest paid Seattle City employees work within the police department, and that the average salary among officers, sergeants, and lieutenants is roughly $268,000. I have rarely encountered ANY interactions throughout my life and I'm 58! I never see them personally but I like seeing them in the area of where I work and where I live. This should be a citizen vote before something like this happens! And more innocent people die, get raped or killed. All the criminals in the world will descend into Seattle now! Why not? People have money and gold, cash and expensive equipment and furniture. And it will be easy because they're Liberals and most are unarmed and refuse to shoot someone to protect themselves. Man these people are selfish, foolish and insensitive... Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79185455 United States 07/31/2020 12:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | instead of spewing no information how about sharing some relevant information. In Seattle, currently the budget of the police department is 409 millions dollars. This is 27% of the City's entire discretionary budget. It is nearly double the Fire Department! This clearly is lopsided and how it came to be like this should be addressed at some point but right now it is critical to rebalance the budget. I am a taxpayer here. No one even calls the Seattle Police for anything anymore anyway because mostly they dont show up. Personally I have always found the firemen to be people who want to help and the police have a real sick contempt for everyone and do not want to help anyone! It is not a bad apple unless you count the whole department as a bad apple. A cop is dangerous and not going to be good to bring into any situation. So we need to create departments that actually serve us. We need a 911 call center that is not operated by the police. Seattle has a new responding unit called HELP which is specifically for 911 calls regarding mental disturbance issues so the person does not end up going to jail and then back on the street without getting proper attention to get them the help they need. This concept will expand in the coming months so police will be needed a smaller and smaller percentage of the time. Yes, there will be less policemen and more people who are trained to help specific issues. SO with 5 months left of 2020, half of 170 million is 85 million to pull from the remainder of the police budget this year. This money should be put into affordable housing, services in black and brown working class communities , renter organizing and eviction defense, youth programmings and alternatives to repressive policing. Housing is probably the biggest issue here and I think half the money will go to that problem. This leaves 85 million for the remainder of the year for the police department. Guess they have to cut overtime which is how a patrol officer makes over 200,000 a year, they may have to live like other city workers. I think maybe they should be more sparing with the use of pepper spray and rubber bullets. Those are expensive. We dont want to pay for them. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75539787 United States 07/31/2020 12:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When they de-fund the police, people will have to get together for defense, everyone will do guard duty, get use to wearing shoes or boots to bed, learn to load and field strip weapons in the dark and shoot at sounds. Have fire fighting equipment handy as well as gas masks or some way to breathe in chemicals burning. I can go on for a long time, do people really want to live like they live in Chicago. |

I can't agree with Sawant on much but she is definitely not wrong about this. Look at your city's police payrolls. The chief of police usually makes the city manager's salary look like pennies. Starting cops off of the boat have total compensation of $100K plus starting when you count their cadillac health plans etc. etc. There are lifelong highly educated city employees like engineers who struggle to make what a starting cop makes. Challenge yourself - go look at your city's payroll. You could trim 50% of the fat off of a police budget with ease. |

In liberal shitholes, because of all the crime and other bullshit, cops will have much higher pay. Where I live, cops start off at $66,000 per year, with Lt. and Captains topping out around $134,000 after 20 years on the job. I live in a low-diversity, low-crime, 90% conservative city. Even though the cops in my city are in less danger than the cops working in the liberal shitholes, I still think they're underpaid. |
