If you have a bad xold, you can't taste worth a darn. The molecules fit like a lock and key on the tongue though the old paradigm is seriously flawed. Similarly as molecules rise when you smell, they pass through the cribiform plate which is perforated and hits the olfactory bulb. While folks agree on what smells are say a raspberry or a lemon or burnt hairm what they actually smell might be quite different as each person is unique. It's like the rods and cones in your eyes. Some people can distinguish many more shades than others. So blue is blue but we don't know if the sensory input to brain is the same. |

A perfume or cologne can be idealy suited or repel as well. Our human perceptions are poorly understood. We may smell fear like a dog or even lying. It could be something akin to telepathy has a basis in fact to smell/taste and subtle clues in speech patterns and visual tics that are tells. |

Nobody knows why. So these subtle differences result in one astronaut thinking space smell like a cooked steak and another thinks it smells like burning hair. |

That then locks an old memory in or one can manipulate it and intentionally smell certain fragrances and study for a test. That is a provable phenomena that can boost test scores. So on some level, everyone has some degree of synethesia. |
