In Birmingham, AL, for instance, Mountain Brook is has the highest per capita income of any city in the state and it's what you could call ghetto-adjacent, as in there are housing projects less than a mile from the most valuable houses in the state. They rely on a very strong police force to keep the riffraff out, but if things ever get truly out of hand, their police will be quickly overwhelmed and they will be the first targets. Same thing in Mobile where Spring Hill is right next to downtown. In Atlanta, Buckhead has basically been consumed by Atlanta.
