ACAB my ass! They project their bullshit upon others and can't smell their own shit. If only one percent are killing people of ALL colors, then you can't label them all bad.

I bet that hurts huh?

Re: if i were a cop...
I've only had one real encounter with police and that was back in January when I had to report my parents missing. I didn't even know what to do or where to start. They helped me through it all. I was in contact with several different police officers that night.

They were extremely empathetic and helpful. It was a terrifying experience, and they are the reason I stayed as calm as I did.

Weeks after this ordeal, I got a phone call from an officer who was just checking in to see how I was doing as well as my parents. They gave me information that I could use to put my dad on a vulnerable person registry and asked me if there was anything they could do support-wise for my family. To me, that was going above and beyond.

The flip side is you need to have periodic psych exams for all officers involved with a death or six months on the street! Weed out the crazy fucks!

I've had police help me out before. Broke down on the side of the road and they pulled up and drove me to the service station to get a tire. One time it was gas. Not all are bad but I ran into those ones also.

how did you did you get this from my OP?

i said that if i were a cop and started seeing fellow cops getting charged with a crime for protecting themselvess, i would probably quit.

and, it seems that that's exactly what's starting to happen in atlanta.

Quit and form a private police force, like the Pinkertons. Then when cities are begging for protection they can contact with them, at a premium.

Just doing their job. So far no one here has taken the time to tell me what their job is. We can dispense with protecting anyone, they have no duty to do that.

If open carry is legal where you live walk around with a gun and see if "upholding the law" is their job.
I say their job is to protect the credit rating of whatever political subdivision they work for. AND THAT'S THEIR ONLY JOB.

While i agree with you OP...he's absolutely correct. There's no law that states that he has to "serve and protect"...that's just an "oath" that they take. For example, the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting cop that was initially fired for neglecting his duties and not taking action against the shooter will be given his job back and full pension reinstated.

Re: if i were a cop...
Just as in the US, there are good and bad police officers in the UK.

But, as in the US, when the going gets rough the good ones close ranks with the bad. So nothing is ever sorted about the bad guys and the overall bullyboy culture.

IMHO, there needs to be a complete overhaul of what policing is.

They need to have some sort of very explicit charter of what they do and what we, the taxpayer can expect from them.

They also need to put together a list of what they expect from us. Because too many people these days don't understand right from wrong, good behaviour from bad.

Police these days are very different from how they were 30years ago. Then they did serve the public. Now they seem like they own the streets, and are over-militarised, over-politicised.

I don't care if you don't believe it. My dad had a doctors appointment on a Thursday. I called them on the Friday and there was no answer at home. They have a cell but never take it with them. By late Friday evening I got scared that they didn't make it home on Thursday...I ended up being right. My mom missed a turn driving home and they got lost. They spent the night in their car. They were found a little after midnight on the Friday because my mom was basically driving around in circles because she had no clue where they were; someone in the neighbourhood where they were called the police because they thought it was strange...and that it was helped them find my parents so quickly.

My mom was completely disoriented. Because they didn't use good problem solving skills...like calling me for help or staying in a hotel instead of their car...the doctors at the hospital had to report her to the Ministry of Transportation. She had her licence suspended.

It's all true, asshole. Worst night of my life and the police helped me through it.
