So sad but five star post! Think of all the times that nobody has taken it into consideration. Always such a carefree thing setting up a hammock.

I guess even having rich parents and a stay at home mom whose entire job is to take care of the kids can't save you from this one.

What a horrific way to go. How can one even prevent such things?

Does anyone have an example of one of these brick pillars?


I'm interested in how a part of the house just collapsed, assuming it was part of the house.

I believe intelligence comes into play. Who's bright idea was it to attach to a brick pillar? I wouldn't have done that. Get a stand alone hammock, and those 2 girls are still alive today.

It must happen more than we realize. Sad.

Tie your hammocks to sturdy objects? Two trees with leaves usually works.

It wasn't the pillar. The tree crushed those poor girls.

A year ago this would have been classified by the government as COVID deaths.

Now, it's classified by us as vaccine deaths.

I imagine lots of people wouldn’t suspect the danger in this. I remember in Driver’s Ed., most of us were surprised to learn that it’s better to crash into a brick wall than a tree.

That being said, we have several places at a nearby lake that are popular for “hammocking,” and two of those trees which were very well-established and appeared to be in good health were recently cut down to the ground.

I thought of this news story, and have been wondering why ever since.

Wow. Never seen that before, but it certainly looks like a real danger. Just get those hammocks with their own metal frame support for your backyard.

This has happened several times in the past.

Looks like 3 separate events! No wonder we were confused!

1 had 1 death.

Then another was in the video, 2017.

"CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – Cleveland Heights police said two sisters were killed after a brick pillar collapsed onto a hammock they were lying in at their home.

Cleveland Heights Police and Fire responded to a call of a girl trapped beneath brick at the Berkshire Road home around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Police said the sisters were in a hammock that was tied to a tree and brick pillar when the pillar collapsed onto the girls. Once the pillar was removed and the two girls were freed, they were taken to a local hospital where they died several hours later"

Right who knew hammocks were dangerous.

I live in the Central American countryside. I have never heard of a hammock accident. Maybe a jealous spouse murdering the lover while he slept on the hammock telanovela style, but never from a tree or building collapse.

That's horrible, don't want to read the story or watch a video about it tbh but I've seen whole garden walls blow over like that with pvc damp proof course, it just lets go.

I can’t even imagine the pain of losing two daughters in one incident.
