[ link to www.radioreference.com (secure)] for your areas repeaters and frequencies. Also all local repeater clubs you may have to find elsewhere. ARES, SKYNET, RACES, etc... Use your coms people. Ive only got handheld vhf...better than nothing You should still be able to key up on a near by repeater if youre close enough. I played around with my old 8w uv5r the other day and was able to key at least 15miles with the Nagoya antenna. Given a good day. Recommend printing multiple copies of everything and right notes on what you find near. MOST IMPORTANTLY get used to the device. Learn to program and scan frequencies.
