Online court records indicate that the officer who stood guard at the scene, Tou Thao, was sued in federal court in 2017 for alleged excessive force. According to the lawsuit, Lamar Ferguson claimed Thao and his partner stopped him as he was walking to his girlfriend’s house in 2014 for no reason and beat him up. The city ultimately settled the lawsuit for $25,000. City records show six complaints have been filed against Thao. Five were closed with no discipline. One remains open. The records didn’t include any further details." It seems people saying racism are the ones noticing skin color. Remember that white guy who got killed when a white cop told him to crawl towards him, but the guy was drunk and his pants were falling off? Cops are always getting in trouble for power trips and idiocy. Just because black men commit most crimes means one of them happened to be the latest victim, statistically. |

You've never heard of positional asphyxia, traumatic asphyxia, or positional suffocation? It's a lesson that mosts PD's teach, and Minneapolis Police Department learned 10 years ago. They "pledged additional training for officers in how to restrain suspects more safely," but it doesn't appear to have happened. "In recent years, many police departments have trained officers to be alert to the risk of what's called "positional asphyxia," the possibility that prolonged restraint of a suspect in a prone position can be deadly. Minneapolis paid out $3 million dollars to settle a lawsuit over the 2010 death of David Smith, 28. The young black man was mentally ill, his attorneys said, and died after officers Tasered him and then held him face-down on the floor for several minutes. One of them kept a knee on his back even after he stopped responding to questions." Much more info at link: [link to www.npr.org (secure)] |
