I believe a MAG 9.0 will level either or within the next 72-96 hours. I heard that the San Andreas Fault couldn't produce a 9.0 EQ?? I believe the highest would be 7.9 or 8.0. Don't get me wrong, I was born and raised in SoCal and been through many EQ's and although I am no longer in SoCal, I wouldn't want to be in a 8.0!!! The scientists are discovering new faults in the area all the time, and how they interconnect. If there is an event large enough to trigger many of the faults to move at once, I think we may see a earthquake larger than 8.0. |

Utah, wyoming, idaho, nevada, cali all the way up to Washington and Oregon... No simple coincidence! It's happening! and I left Chicago to come back to the West because of the crime and violence (and grifting) in the Windy City.....now look what I can "look forward" to...so much for the peace and quiet of the desert.... Say a prayer and be aware and you are far ahead of your peers. Indeed....in the end, praying and being aware is the best thing any of us can do these days..... Incidentally, just an aside, I worked in ophthalmology for 30 years before "retiring" when we moved back West..... |

Still trying to wrap my head around this one...... Quoting: Paul Drake Actually, that is a common aftershock sequence after a 6.5 earthquake. Should be quite a few high 4s and low 5s; largest aftershock should be in the 5.5 range, maybe a little higher. The time to worry is when you don’t have such an aftershock sequence OR you are getting additional quakes very close in magnitude to the first one (that would be a quake swarm OR possibly even indicate pre shocks. That said, I believe for a quake in this range there is always at least a 5% chance of it being a pre-shock to something bigger. Lived in California for too many years; know too much about earthquakes. |

So unusual they had to include the details in San Andreas about a big one in Nevada happening before the really big one in California. No..Nevada has thousands of faults and hundreds of ancient volcanic cones, They just don't occur in the measly human lifetime scale you are trying to put into context. |

The 6.5 was 2.8 km and most after shocks are under 10km in depth. Very shallow. |
