The 1918 flu pandemic came in three waves, with the second being deadlier than the first, and the last being shorter and milder.

Other pandemics have behaved in similar ways. Therefore, there is no reason why there shouldn’t and won’t be a second wave.

We could get lucky and see a second wave that is relatively mild and disappears, much like the Swine Flu bug of 2009-2010 did.

The available evidence seems to indicate SARS-CoV-2 is mutating extremely rapidly. Rapid mutation could result in additional strains that are either more virulent and dangerous, or less so.

Only time will tell which way things are going to go.
