Does anyone think they could be doing something other than just flying over cities? Is it really just for emotional support and patriotism? I guess it could be, but how much does it cost to do something like this? I just don’t see why the government would use tax payer money for an operation like this without gaining anything in return.

You'll wanna avoid breathing, if possible, what they're spraying.

Money is already allocated for air shows. Air shows are cancelled, so they're doing these flyovers. I also read that the pilots have to put in a certain number of hours flying. Rather than "practicing" somewhere in a remote area, they are doing it for the public.

Are they only flying over the coasts? If so, it's for defense and Trump doesn't want to scare you unnecessarily.

I don't care what you say you read. These air shows cost tens of millions of dollars in flight operational hours, ground support and transport of all the equipment using both the flight show aircraft and at least four cargo transports and all the crew that goes with it.

Six demonstration aircraft plus two spares and two transport aircraft each for Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. That 22 aircraft and all the costs associated with moving them right there.

No. They perform at air shows all over. Dayton first cancelled, then said postponed, the air show but here's a link. It's a big event and amazing what they can do. Some of the trivia:

Where is my personal flyover in the midwest? I paid just as much taxes as the assholes in NY and DC. Do I get a free checkride in one? I am paying for this shit so where is my personal freebie?

I cant hold my breath that long. But another solution might be not to go see this...
