Fired after Reporting Covid-19 Exposure: Need Adivice
So on March 14th I found out my 2 grandsons, that live with their Mother, Father and me, had a teacher at their school test positive for the virus. It was a Saturday. So I called my supervisor to tell er and ask her what I should do as I was at work. She told me to go home and stay there. The Governor for NC closed all schools because of this revelation.

On Sunday she sent me message showing that I had second hand exposure and I could return to work on Monday. I did just that and then she called me into her office and said “Things are not working out, stated things that were not true when I worked on Saturday” then fired me. Never been fired before in 30 years. Blew my mind.

Do I have a case? I would appreciate your thoughts on what to do.

My husband worked in NC until 2016. I believe, the state laws allow employers to fire folks at will, unless your unionized. Maybe someone with more info will chime in, but we knew his boss could have fired him, any time he wanted too.

If it isn't for just cause, run now and apply for unemployment, get an extra 600 bucks per week for 3 months. Looks like everyone else has.

You probably do have a case but you should consult with an employment lawyer in your state. If you got tested and are negative, you should call your former employer as a courtesy and tell him he has nothing to worry about. They might feel so guilty that they hire you back. The media has just done a terror mind control trick on the public-- so don't be too harsh on your employer-- even though he did the wrong thing--- and you did the right thing. God will reward you.

It is a hire at will/fire at will state. But discrimination is a different matter.

A little bit. About 4 weeks earlier I went through training and the District Manager challenged us to have the courage to talk to the Store Manager about behavior outside of company policy. So I did just that and approached her to tell her what he said and about what I had seen over the previous 5 moths about certain leadership behavior. She did not like hearing it at all. Her words and body language suggested I was a threat to her operation. Which I wasn’t. Complete good faith in talking to her.

There you have it. You singled yourself out. When it came to layoff, you were the first in mind.

How do you feel about it?
