Yep. As it is with any symbol that "their" "enemies" decide to use, it will be pushed in a corrupted manner everywhere.
The reality is that the origin of many symbols date far back to a time before "they" started pushing their shit.
Controlled opposition and infiltration of an "enemy" organisation is useful, moreso if you can introduce symbolism and ideas to them and push it - whilst always planning to corrupt it.

Anyway, they can't corrupt them all; history and etymology shows the real origins.
