Because in order to get elected (especially as a Democrat), you have to convince people that where they are in life is NOT the result of every decision they’ve made (or haven’t made). That it’s not their fault. It’s the fault of others. And the Democrats will make those other people pay (literally and figuratively).

Invoking personal responsibility is the quickest, surest way to lose an election as a Democrat.

Even JFK’s speech where he famously said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” wasn’t made until AFTER he was elected.
