Cooking Off The Grid
Anyone here routinely cooking off the grid? I know all about rocket stoves and cooking in cast iron potjie pots.

However, where I am it is cold as the devil's ass and there is no way in hell you're going to be able to cook outside for 5 months out of the year.

Without putting in an enormous masonry fireplace which won't heat nearly as well as our woodstove anyway, I'm thinking a wood cookstove would be pretty great. The prices on those are INSANE though.

Just curious what others are considering or utilizing as cooking options if they are exploring off-grid living. Especially interested in hearing what those in cold-ass regions like mine are thinking.

Thanks.

Save firewood. Use a rocket stove in your fireplace. Combine with a thermal cooker for excellent efficiency.

Re: Cooking Off The Grid
I cook on my woodstove, or sometimes on a standard coleman propane camp stove, having hooked it up to a bbq sized tank with an adaptor connection.
