fwiw 3M has NO CONTROL over products it has already made, sold to 3rd parties which took delivery of them and are storing them in their own warehouses, that the 3rd parties are now trying to sell on the open market.

What exactly is the story here? Did assume retailer have masks for sale? The article has sparse detail. The tweet or quote has no detail.

What did 3m do wrong, exactly?

Last I heard, 3m was boosting production as far as they could.

Although not in this article others yesterday and the day before were talking about LOTS of previously manufactured masks that were owned by the purchasers but stored in warehouses in the US were being sold to overseas buyers. The numbers were in the tens of millions of masks. Apparently US buyers including the US Government were NOT willing to pay the prices asked to buy those masks but foreigners, probably foreign governments WERE.

Those 10's of millions of masks, that have now probably already been shipped out of the US, were NOT owned by 3M or in their possession at the time their owners were selling them to overseas buyers last week.

I fail to see where 3M is responsible for their buyer's actions for sales, and delivery, that took place BEFORE the US decided to get serious about the CV.

Remember, just 2 weeks ago - March 17th or so - President Trump was saying this CV thing was a BIG NOTHING!! and the US Government was NOT yet trying to acquire all the masks it could.
