So today, for the first time, I wore a mask and latex gloves to go grocery shopping. It was GOOD.

Did that yesterday. Only some people with masks and gloves ... more with just gloves.

Thank goodness I am now stocked up enough that I don't have to go to the store until at least May 10th ... and in a worst case situation I could do OK until Mid June (have an breakmaker machine so can make all my own bread even once my bread supply runs out).

And in defense of wearing a mask during shopping:

Usually a grocery store has some nasty smells in in - probably from other people. Wearing that mask that had a charcoal layer to it, cleared that smell away and gave me a clean neutral smell to breathe. That means all that crap in the air (corona virus or not) is NOT entering my lungs. That is reason enough to wear a mask when shopping, forever, really.

And for my mindset, I pretended I was working in the metal shop and had to be wearing protection. (usually eyewear there, but it feels the same, having a mask on and going shopping). Grocery shopping is just another filthy chore that requires personal protection - mask and gloves at least. Time to order a better pair of eye protection for shopping also.

Does you no good if the grocery clerks, cashiers , produce, meat cutters , deli workers who handle the product you buy aren’t wearing any .

What the mask does, most importantly, is keeps your hands off your mouth and nose, and hopefully your eyes also. That's the main reason of the mask - to stop subconscious touching of your face. The number ONE reason for the mask. Number ONE.

Of course, it filters your breathing air. I loved breathing neutral smelling air today in the grocery store instead of that gross multi-bacteria smell that floats around inside the store.

While these are good to do, keep in mind that to truly be effective in preventing contamination you need to replace your gloves each time you touch anything or you are only keeping your hands clean but will get them dirty when you take gloves off and touch anything you bought that wasn’t Lysol wiped to kill anything that will be on the item you’re handling.

Yeah I started wiping down groceries today too, for the first time, with Clorox wipes. Big changes in my protocols today.

I think a lot of people feel odd wearing a mask and gloves but it sure beats pneumonia and maybe even death. Not to mention you're protecting others and your own family as well.

Gloves will help keep your hands off your face.
And if you have micro-cuts in your hands, the gloves
may save you from an infection (like a MRSA infection from the shopping cart). Who knows who touched that cart last.

Yep, the latex gloves while shopping today felt VERY intelligent.
