if the NO2 in the air that we breathe reacts with the water in our lungs to produce nitrogen acids which go on to attack the lung tissue, perhaps an immediate counter to this would be to alkalize the body by supplementing with bicarb soda ?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78703206 good question I know that for something like Influenza virus, the infection alters ion channel function of airway and alveolar cells, so taking bicarbonate ions can disrupt the pH gradient across bacterial membranes and affect the potency of viral membrane fusion as well as increasing effectiveness of antibiotics Influenza requires a low pH to achieve membrane fusion with a cell, so altering pH can inhibit the ability of the virus to break into cells But....to my knowledge, SARS-Cov2 is a pH independent virus, meaning it can undergo protease cleavage of cell membranes under widely varying pH conditions ( Viruses are classed broadly in 2 groups as far as pH - 1 requires specific pH to break into cells, the 2nd type doesn't )
