What democrats said after Trump’s flight restrictions & mandatory quarantines in January:

CNN ran a story warning that “the US coronavirus travel ban could backfire” and have the effect of “stigmatizing countries and ethnicities.”

Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.), who chaired a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing on the epidemic: “In our response we can’t create prejudices and harbor anxieties toward one population. Besides the diplomatic blowback, the travel ban probably doesn’t make sense.”

The American Civil Liberties Union warned that the administration's measures “infringe on civil rights.”

Saad Omer, director of the Yale Institute of Global Health: “Travel restrictions hurt economies and divert public health resources into enforcing a ban that may not be useful at preventing the spread of infection.”
