We got rid of our TV back in 2004. Only missed it on Thanksgiving Day for the Macy's Day Parade. Our daughter was 6.

What was darkly disturbing during some of the children programing shows were the promos for other shows that were clearly 'sick'. One such promo was a Sci Fi show where the male character walked behind a female character, who was sitting down, whereupon he took hold of her head twisting it breaking her neck. This same promo was aired over and over during children programing shows.

Well, after viewing those unwanted 'sick' violent acts against women a few times that is when I knew - NO MORE TV. There was no way to control the Satanic messages being spewed out to the innocent on a daily basis. She's an innocent and didn't need that type of mind-control programs by watching women being murdered during a TV commercial promo.

As a viewing replacement we just rented or purchased family or child oriented DVDs. She's now 24 and a wonderful compassionate, caring individual with a sound moral foundation that hadn't been corrupted by the MSM media.

I can't even begin to share how many times we viewed Winnie the Pooh and it's still a family favorite. Along with Winnie the Pooh we also watched numerous musicals, Disney, along with Agatha Christy mysteries later on became favorites. Now she also watches Youtube cooking shows to work on a new recipe for dinner.

So let's have at it and please feel free to share some of your favorite Youtube shows.

There is so much out there that's available that this is also a time to learn new info and skills.

Some of our personal YouTube category favorites are:

Cooking
Tiny Houses
Preparedness outdoor cooking skills
Gardening
Painting
DYI Remodeling
DYI Repairs
Self-sufficiency / Survival
National Parks
Travel

DIY Backyard Fire Pit: Build It in Just 7 Easy Steps

[link to www.zillow.com (secure)]

The perfect backdrop for outdoor fun is closer than you think, thanks to our step-by-step instructions.

Turn your backyard into a cozy camp spot by making your own fire pit. This DIY project is easy to complete, and you’ll be making s’mores around the fire in no time.

Get ready
Before you begin building, consult your local fire code to see if fire pits are allowed in your city and, if so, how far away the fire pit has to be from a structure.
Then, gather your supplies:

Bricks for the fire pit wall
Gravel
Twine or string
Tape measure
Stake
Large shovel
Trowel
Tamp
Level

When purchasing bricks for the fire pit wall, go for something sturdy like retaining wall bricks or concrete pavers. Some home improvement stores even carry bricks specifically designed for fire pits. Use a layer of firebricks, which have a higher heat resistance, on the inner layer of the fire pit as an extra safety measure.

Now that you have all your supplies and you’ve checked your local fire code, you’re ready to build!

1. Create a circle
Pick a spot for your fire pit (ensuring that it is located a safe distance from any structures, bushes or trees) and insert a stake in the ground where the center of the pit will be.

Tie one end of the string or twine to the stake and measure how wide you want your circle to be.
Typically, a fire pit has a diameter of about 4-5 feet. Cut the string and tie the other end to the handle of a trowel. With the string or twine taut, drag the sharp end of the trowel around in a circle, creating a line in the grass.
2. Shovel out the grass
Using a large shovel, dig out the grass inside the circle.

For safety purposes, the hole for a fire pit should be about 6-12 inches deep. Be sure to call 811 before you start digging to ensure there are no utility lines buried under the spot you’ve chosen.

3. Tamp down the dirt
If you don’t have a tamp, you can just use the bottom of your shovel.

4. Make sure the circle is level

Get down on the ground with your level to ensure that the surface is ready for the bricks. Keep making small adjustments until it’s completely level.

5. Add gravel
Put a pretty thick layer of gravel in the fire pit (at least a couple of inches). Spread the gravel around evenly.

6. Arrange the bricks
After you’ve spread the gravel around, arrange your bricks in a circle and stack them in layers until the fire pit wall is at least 12 inches tall.

For extra safety, you have the option to put an inner layer of firebricks. Though you don’t need to use mortar if the bricks are heavy enough to make a sturdy stack, you can use an outdoor fire-resistant mortar between the bricks for extra stability.

7. Relax and enjoy!
Gather a couple of Adirondack chairs, some firewood, a few friends and campfire treats to get full use out of your new fire pit.

The Shepherd's Shack

Want to build an off-grid Nineteenth Century living van?

[link to www.airbnb.co.uk (secure)]

An authentic shepherd's hut set on a small, coastal sheep farm in West Cornwall. The hut offers a true taste of the life as a bygone shepherd but with a little extra comfort.

The space
The Shepherd's Shack is an authentic shepherd's hut that has been built by myself with the help of a few friends. It is based on the traditional design and layout of a Nineteenth Century living van, and has, where possible, been built from recycled and local materials. I hope that you might feel that the resident shepherd has just stepped out to attend to his, or her, flock.

The hut has it's own shower room with basin and compost loo. There is a small kitchen area with a gas stove, sink and fridge. Simple cooking equipment is included.

The hut is fully insulated with, you guessed it, sheeps wool and is warmed by a wood burning stove.

There is a raised box bed, with a pull out dining table, two stools, a small wardrobe and plenty of storage. The bed has a sheep's wool duvet and there is a small sofa in front of the wood burner to keep you warm on cooler nights.

The hut is set in its own wee wild flower meadow with beautiful views to the sea and moors. Parking is right next to the hut.

Other things to note
The Shepherds Shack is largely off grid......your water comes from a well, hot water is run off lpg, heating comes from a wood burner and there is a compost loo. The hut is cleaned using eco products and good old elbow grease and linen is hung out to dry in the sun. There is currently no wifi in the hut however you are welcome to come up to the house to use your device. Mobile signal in the area is pretty patchy!

Never Toss Out Old Pallets, You'll Be Amazed With What It Can Do In Your Garden

Instead of investing in pricey planters and organizers, you can instead utilize old pallets and their wood to create boxes and garden benches alike. Not only is this going to save you a lot of green, it's environmentally conscious because you're repurposing something that could have otherwise been tossed.
Keep watching to know the amazing things you can do with this reclaimed wood.

1.Use the pallets as veggie planters
The pallets elevate the plants and help you keep them in nice tidy rows. Not only is this super easy to do, but it's going to keep your backyard looking sharp and not overgrown.

2.Build a vertical herb garden
If you've always wanted an herb garden, but are lacking space, try using a pallet. With a clean and sturdy pallet, landscape fabric, and some strong staples, you can create an herb garden using very little space. It could even be placed on a deck or porch, given that there's adequate sunlight. Be sure to use appropriate sized plants (try basil, thyme, chives, parsley, rosemary, and calendula.) check for water needs frequently.

3.Create a stacked planter box
Isn't this the cutest thing you've ever seen? You’ll love how the planters, made out of old pallet wood, are stacked and askew - playing into the whimsy and beauty of a garden. This is easy DIY project will only take an afternoon but will leave you smiling for years to come.

4.Use a pallet as a garden tool organizer
This project is super simple, as it's only going to require some minor adjustments. If you want to make it look even better, though, simply paint it. You can also add some hooks to the front slats to hold smaller shovels, gloves and more.

5.Make your own planter
Instead of buying pricey planting boxes and lugging them home, make them from the scrap wood from an old pallet. This wood is nice and sturdy and will weather well outside in the elements. It's going to look great on your deck or as an elevated flower arrangement in your garden

6.Put up the picket fence you've been wanting
Wooden fences are a charming addition to any home. But, they can be pricey. Instead, repurpose old pallet wood in to get the picket fence you've always dreamed of.

7.Make an outdoor bar
This DIY is super easy and the end result looks like something out of a glossy magazine. All you're going to need are two pallets and some cinderblocks to top it off. Well, you should really top it off with some cocktails. After all that hard work in the garden, you deserve it!

"Alpine lake" (Austria) Artist-Viktor Yushkevich. #5 picture in 2020.

Alpine traditions
Even the very first settlers in the alpine regions of Western Austria preferred to live at high altitudes. It was more difficult to get to them than in the valleys, which were often swampy, prone to mudflows and without paths. Thus, the supposedly insurmountable borders of the mountains were already conquered in the early history of the region, and the region was divided in half by trade routes stretching to the Mediterranean Sea. The best evidence of this was the discovery in 1991 of Ötz Ice, whose body was discovered at an altitude of 10,500 feet on the Ötztal Alps glacier, and which traded about 5,300 years ago in the area surrounding Lake Garda.

The way that Ötzi moved between different valleys and levels of vegetation lives on to this day in many of the “moving” traditions of alpine culture. These practices are often closely associated with cattle breeding, which from the very beginning has been a decisive economic factor for settlers. For example, mountain "epaulettes for cattle" are one of the most striking traditions that are still preserved in the alpine regions of Austria. In early summer, in the vicinity of Witsun, pastoralists and milkmen drive cows to mountain meadows, and in mid-September, animals are usually driven back to the valley. The last stage, in particular, is accompanied by festive ceremonies. If the summer has passed without any serious incidents, the herds are specially designed for this occasion. With cows with a headdress from dwarf pine, as well as with thistle and milkweed.

Geography of Austria

Topographic map of Austria showing cities with a population of over 100,000
Austria is mainly a mountainous country due to its location in the Alps. Central Eastern Alps, Northern Alps Limestone and Southern Alps Limestone are all partially in Austria. Of the total area of Austria (84,000 km 2 or 32,433 sq. Miles), only about a quarter can be considered low-lying, and only 32% of the country's territory is below 500 meters (1640 feet). The Alps of western Austria are somewhat giving way to the lowlands and plains in the eastern part of the country.

Austria lies between 46 ° and 49 ° north latitude and 9 ° and 18 ° east longitude.

It can be divided into five regions, the largest of which is the Eastern Alps, which make up 62% of the country's total area. The Austrian foothills at the foot of the Alps and the Carpathians account for about 12%, and in the east, the foothills and areas adjacent to the periphery of the Pannoni lowland account for about 12% of the total land area. The second large mountainous region (much lower than the Alps) is located in the north. Known as the Austrian granite plateau, it is located in the central part of the Bohemian Mass and makes up 10% of the territory of Austria. The Austrian part of the Vienna basin is the remaining 4%.

In phytogeographic terms, Austria belongs to the central European province of the Circumboreal region within the Boreal kingdom. According to WWF, the territory of Austria can be divided into four ecoregions: mixed forests of Central Europe, mixed forests of Pannonian origin, coniferous and mixed forests of the Alps and broad-leaved forests of Western Europe.

Re: What to watch on the internet and YOUTUBE - post your favorites

"10 EMP Proof Items to Hoard" - Even if You Don't Prep for EMP

10 Things to Have Ready before an EMP

1. Build a Faraday Cage
A Faraday cage is a sealed enclosure that has an electrically conductive outer layer and a non-conductive inner layer. The purpose of this box is to protect any electronics inside it in case of an EMP. There are basically two simple ways of building a Faraday cage:
by wrapping a non-conductive box (such as cardboard or wood) in a conductive material (such as aluminum foil)
by using a conductive box (like an ammo can) and isolate the inner walls of the box with foam (polystyrene) or a cheap Yoga mat or maybe window insulating foam

We build our using a metal trash can with lid and lined bottom, sides and lid can with cardboard. Cheap and easy. Test it out by placing cell phone inside with lid down and call it to see if it still is getting a signal. If so check and tape cardboard to make sure it's making a secure seal.

2. Store in your Faraday Cage the most important survival electronics like:
A radio (for communication and gathering information);
An old laptop computer with downloads of ebooks and stored personal information or at least a manual on how to make a generator using materials you can find in your home;
A set of walkie-talkies that run on rechargeable batteries;
A small generator;
A manually rechargeable flashlight (most flashlights have electronics in them so they will also fry);
Electronic parts for cars;
Any electronic equipment you don’t use on a regular basis buy may need when SHTF like: night vision and other electronic optics, solar battery chargers, drills;

3. Store fuel
This does not mean you have to store tons of fuel. You won’t want to be seen driving around. Just a few gallons in a small tank that will allow you to conduct a few basic unpredictable operations like: bringing your family home safe or an emergency getaway car in case things get really bad in your town. (That only if you manage to protect your car against the EMP)

4. Save your car!
Basically you have 3 good options:
Place in the Faraday cage the vital electronics your car needs (doubles) and replace them after the EMP (PCM – Powertrain Control Module, Electronic Fuel Injection, Electronic Ignition and possibly even other parts depending on the vehicle)

Buy a cheap old back-up car that does not have vital electronic parts (like a 1984 Toyota Hilux 4×4 – around $1200).

Harden your car against EMP’s and park it in a sheet metal shed or steel building. You can also buy EMP shielding devices that zip or wrap around your car’s wiring.

5. Plan on living self-sustained
This means fulfilling all our 3 basic needs: water, food and shelter!

Have in mind a place where to procure water when there will be no running water. Have in mind a place where you can plant and harvest crops. Buying at least one acre in the countryside would give you at least something to plan with.

One of the best ways to do that is by building a system totally independent from the environment. I have something you need to watch. It’s much better than I am at explaining the threat.

6. Stockpile essentials like:
Food – for at least 5 months (winter plus two more months) – if you have a plan to go “self-sustained” and a 12 months if you don’t plan to do that. Remember that there will be no refrigeration.

Water – This is actually the most important event for which you need to store water! Even in case of droughts people don’t die because of the lack of water.

But this is not the case. In case of an EMP there will be no running water, and if you are not close to a river or a fountain you may die. You need to know your location and set in your mind a walking route to a local fountain or a nearby river. If it is 3 days away (walking) it is not good. Store water for at least 10 days and head to the water source to get more water reserves starting day one.
Tools like an axe, a knife first aid kit and antibiotics (you won’t be able to call 911)

7. Some things you should have in the car
We all spend a lot of time driving and you should not be totally surprise if an EMP gets you stuck many miles away from home on a deadly cold winter or in a desert miles away from water. Whatever the case, it doesn’t cost you anything to keep some of your equipment ready in your car:

liquid emergency candle/water proof matches
warm clothing
long term food (some emergency food ration bars) and water (at least 1-3 gallons)
a fire starter
a knife
maybe a fold up bike
and whatever you think – depending on the distance and time of your journey;
Also… if you plan on a remote and long journey you may want to consider throwing your bug out bag into the trunk.

8. Secure Your Home against Looters
OCOKA is a military term that stands for:
Observation and fields of fire
Cover and Concealment
Obstacles
Key Terrain
Avenues of Approach

When setting up home defenses OCOKA should always be kept in mind and each principle addressed. Following these five key principles, you will greatly improve your security and survivability. This is one of the things that I’ve learned from a well-known army officer vet Steve Walker, for whom I have all the respect in the world.

9. Some things you need to have at home
These things will become important valuables after an EMP:
When your bank account will disappear or you won’t be able to withdraw your money, you’ll be in trouble. Keep some cash and some gold (doesn’t lose value as normal currency does) at home.

Charcoal – you can make a lot of things with it (from water filters to gun powder)

Duct tape, Cable Ties and Super Glue (if you want to build or improvise something, like a simple wind generator you’ll need these)

Lamp oil, Candle Wax and Wicks
Vaseline
Paracord
Alcohol
Soaps

Anything you know it will be useful for you – depending on your bug out plan.

10. Consider buying, making or learn how to make a simple Survival Generator
This generator has to be small enough to fit in your Faraday Cage. Some generators can be really expensive, but if you know where to look and what to buy you can get a small one for $200-$300 (1200 Watts). An electric generator using wood as fuel would be perfect. Otherwise, you should also consider storing more fuel. Solar generators work well as long as there is sunlight.
