User ID: 75733009 United States 03/27/2020 11:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey GLP I could use your help for ideas Quoting: Dame A group of university and medical students are creating a national initiative to help medical staff. They’re going to go out into the community, collect and donate exactly what staff needs to make their lives as easy as possible while on shift. Any ideas? Looking to compile a list that they would distribute to their local hospitals asking if they want these items and individual students would go out in the community and collect items from the list. Yes, PLEASE get this to them! I've already made & sent some of these mask to my 2 nieces who are nurses & my nephew who is a doctor, I used N95 masks, but if you read the study I got the ideal from, you can use a surgical mask ( And turn them into "super masks") like the study did with fantastic results or just abut any kind of mask! I found this incredible study/experiment in February while trying to find a way to make the N95 mask I bought reusable, & this is it! I want this to go viral & get it into the hands of our nurses, docs nationwide..Please share it anyway you can! The study: "A reusable virus deactivation system by functionalization of the main fibrous filtration unit of surgical mask with sodium chloride salt. The salt coating on the fiber surface dissolves upon exposure to virus aerosols and recrystallizes during drying, destroying the pathogens. When tested with tightly sealed sides, salt-coated filters showed remarkably higher filtration efficiency than conventional mask filtration layer, and a 100% SURVIVAL RATE was observed in mice" Salt-coated filters proved highly effective in deactivating influenza viruses regardless of subtypes and following storage in harsh environmental conditions. Our results can be applied in obtaining a broad-spectrum, airborne pathogen prevention device in preparation for epidemic and pandemic of respiratory diseases. The process I developed to make my masks reusable, but it can be applied to any mask! In the study they just used surgical masks. Ingredients/process: 1st the ingredients: N95 or whatever kind of mask you can get, 1 MERV 13 hvac filter (One of the highest rated Hvac filters you can buy), non-ionized salt, polysorbate 20 ( food safe binding agent) Cut the hvac filter into strips wide enough for your mask For 1 mask & filter: 100mi(3.4oz) water, add 29 grams((1.02 oz) salt (non-ionized) Bring to just below a boil on the stove Dissolve until cool, add 1/4 teaspoon polysorbate 20(binding agent), mix well. When it cools, pour solution into spray bottle, spray hvac filter until wet on both sides, dry overnight. Affix the MERV 13 filter onto N95 mask or whatever kind of mask you have I'm using hot clue(I'm sure there is a better way to do this) The study [link to www.nature.com (secure)] In the study they just used a regular surgical mask Thank you, this is useful. Are you affixing the treated Merv 13 filter to the inside or outside of your mask? I suppose it would be best on both sides. ~~*NOT* a very nice kitty!~~ "Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't live in fear." |

Not exactly like this but I include an amazon link for an example of concept since they go by many names: [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] I can't imagine many in the profession needing eyeglasses, so maybe it would be something you ask them if they need before purchasing. That said I dug out a old pair for mine I had squirreled away and I've noticed I don't fidget with them as much. Also possible need for eyeglass cleaning rags and solvent, or just the one time use napkins. Another thing you could do is set up a youtube or moderated board where words of support could be posted. I say moderated only because as we've seen here, some bad eggs still stink in the midst of this crisis. Another idea may be see if your hospital has any issues with playing music in the wards. Maybe an avenue for a Pandora stream or CD donation. I have to imagine for the patients just sitting around listening to the pain isn't helping their morale either. |

It's nice to help even in small doses. However the reality is that business's have already stepped up and USA will not really see any shortages. Companies are converting their lines to being able to manufacture everything we might need, remember we do not need them yet and are not short on things yet. |

Cots and bedding so they can get a bit of shut eye(if there is room) in between caring for patients. Personal care kits(deodorant, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, razor, shaving cream, shampoos and conditioners),so they don't feel grungy. Change of underware, bras, socks and clean scrubs. These are things they have always needed. Its so nice to see them supported by the community now. Hope it continues long after this is over. Nurses and Doctors rarely got their breaks before this. It must be horrible now. |

Why? Because then you have taxpayer-funded servants with no personal interest in voting against higher taxes, higher parking costs, and higher transport costs. |

It doesn't have the drop that other things have...it just keeps your energy higher with less damage to your body. Matcha is a good idea. The ability to brew healing teas for the staff with herbs that promote the immune system. Some Reiki trained chair massage technicians to actually pull the tension from their bodies. Keep their energy/Chi up. OP is in Hawaii - so this might be doable there. Would be easy to get the community to support one hospital. Just get one rockin volunteer coordinator and hook them up to each hospital. |

My daughter is home now, but we will always have a special place in our hearts for Hilo and those living on the island. The ideas suggested in this thread are given to students as suggestions when contacting hospitals. There are now students on the mainland signed up, so hopefully there will soon be more medical facilities listed along with their protocols for donating. It’s being shared with AMSA (American Medical Students Association) members nationwide. |

The site offers no specific help to any medical persons but rather wants you to search their site for local resources and then post videos and info on their site for the efforts you have made. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75426142 Read my above post. If you are a premed or medical student and / or an AMSA member, you will understand. I’m sharing this link because I said at the beginning of this thread I would. If you are a business owner and would be willing to donate, there is form you can submit. That can be passed on to a local premed or medical student in your area. You would be in contact with a student and your local Hospital, that’s as far as it would go. Of course, if you would be willing to donate within a larger geographical area, that would be great. You can be part of the solution or part of the problem. It’s pretty straight forward. If you can’t handle sharing a phone number, there isn’t much else to say |
