Harlem Globetrotters legend ‘Curly’ Neal dies at 77

I seen him way back in the 70s when his troupe.

Neal played in more than 6,000 games in 97 countries for the barnstorming Globetrotters from 1963 to 1985..

He was awesome......

Sure makes me feel old when people I know (know of in this case) die of old age related things and most of the people around are going 'who?'.

2020 how people forget

I remember Curly...he was a lot of fun to watch.

Actually had a former Harlem Globetrotter befriended me and my brother when our parents managed a hotel in downtown Detroit when we were just teenagers.

He and his wife lived in the hotel...he was always hanging out with us, he always seemed to have an almost fatherly attitude making sure if we were on the night shift he would be there just to make sure we were ok.

One day I was walking out of the door from the lobby and looked over at the pool and there he was in a lounger BUT he had one of those aluminum foil looking facial tents there were popular back then. He was in the lounger with the thing below his neck to channel sun on his face. I looked at him and said, Cleveland, what they heck are you doing? He just looked at me and said, "Man, you don't think we come by this naturally do you"? I nearly died laughing.

I read his obituary recently and saw where later in life he became a fixture around the Indiana Pacers facility and was an usher for many years.

Here is an article about him. Thanks for reminding me of a man that left a great mark on my life..I always like remembering him. Seems Cleveland never stopped caring about his fellow man.
