Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them wherever they require it. If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." -St. Francis of Assisi "The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated." -Gandhi Thread: Top 10 Opera Auditions (My Music Thread) |

Quoting: Kasa [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Give that one a shot :P That's ridiculous, haha. And incredible. Got a few others on my list, which are going to be bitches too Carmina Buriana - Carl Orff arrangement. HARD, even though it doesn't sound like it. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Night on the bald mountain - Ok to play, lots of hammering. But v fast, and variations and dischordant bits [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] and of course Beethoven Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement Interesting guitar version to mix things up. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Might be dead when I can do that lot. But it is surprising that when you have left your practice for such a long time how quickly it comes back. So if anyone is reading that has left their instruments in the loft or something like that, get back into it. I had forgotten how much of a pleasure it was to play. ( Had a bottle of wine ;) ) |

That Moonlight Sonata cover is badass, neo-classical metal has always had special spot in my heart. I've always enjoyed listening to Yngwie Malmsteen. Yep I concur with your statement about picking your instrument up again. Can't remember names worth a shit but my muscle memory off the charts. One of the first songs I ever learned was From Four Til Late by Robert Johnson. After about a year of not playing I was able play that song almost flawlessly. The way we store our memory is very interesting. Truth and such... |

The way we store our memory is very interesting. For me all the note memory was gone. Nothing left. But the hands muscle memory and understanding of the music and what sounds nice together all still there. So improvising and mucking around still works well. So while I am back to square one on what notes to play for a piece of music, feeling like there is a connection with the piano is all still there. (Thankfully) Off to bed now, gnight and thanks for replies. |

( Had a bottle of wine ;) ) Excellent choice in music, OP! You give me hope. I left off playing a couple of decades ago when we opened our own business and that took all my time. Now I am hoping to carve out time again to play, but it will be from the very beginning, I fear. I have only an old antique parlor organ now, so I am thinking of buying one of those cheap roll up digital pianos to practice on. But I doubt I will ever get to the level you are playing at now. Maybe if I am diligent, I will get to the point of playing Fur Elise again! Good luck to you. And God bless. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. ( Had a bottle of wine ;) ) I often send my daughters goodies by email. I was listening to Carmina Burana one day and decided to send it to her, with explanation of how I used to hear it on the radio years ago. I think it stunned her, as I never heard a peep back from her about it. I think that some of the "heavier" music throws people for a loop, they just don't have the circuits to absorb it if they haven't had their channels opened up by a lot of the lighter classical music. I think I'll stop and listen to a bit of it right now! *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. That is a law of the universe. *** |
