This keeps disappearing from the thread, so I'll shorten it and try again. It's helpful, so someone might benefit from it.

Do you have cats? How much food do they leave in their bowls that you toss? Some days, mine eat it all. Other days, they'll leave half a bowl - same flavor - who knows why? A couple of months ago, I started freezing their leftovers - flavors all mixed up, the filet and bits type. I put them in the oven to warm them - served some warm - some were left to cook almost crispy. They ate both types like it was kitty candy.
A couple of weeks ago I started saving a big new batch of their leftovers. So glad because it took 4 days to get on the grocery delivery list. Had I not saved their leftovers, they'd have had nothing.

So, there's another idea for you. Pet food leftovers.

Stale chips and cereals - freshen and crisp them by putting them in the oven a few minutes.

This is a great idea. I cannot stand how much expensive cat food my picky ones waste. Usually the dogs snag the leftovers, but I am going to try this.

It surprised me how well it worked, as if it was a brand new favorite flavor.

.

I cut, taped, and filled about a dozen TP cores with seedling dirt, today. Tomorrow the seeds go in.

Grew our own potatoes, growing up.
I did tuck a few tiny colorful spuds aside in a dark cabinet. Will prep and plant some as an experiment. Damn squirrels should leave them a lone.

Next year, they’ll get their own grow bag.

(Fyi - 2 cubic feet of potting soil fits in a15 gallon grow bag. )

Normally i ditch Milk past it sell by date.

Not now,it is still good for 5-7 days past the date,if kept refrigerated.

We have cut down on portion sizes.

Also rationing toilet paper.

I jump straight in to a hot shower after a Number 2.

Figure the wife needs it more than me over the coming weeks.

My cats are pigs - they would eat until they burst if I let them. If I don't feed them early enough in the morning (sometimes they think it's time to eat at 2 or 3 a.m.), they will throw themselves against my door or wall to wake me up! If I ignore it, my big cat will get up on the bed and jump on the poor dog (and that cat is a huge Tom weighing in at 15 lbs).
 Quoting: GA Girl

LOL. My babies' breakfast trigger is when the coffee machine starts. I have mini chimes inside at the balcony door. They have figured out how to knock the curtain into the chimes to wake me up. Clever. If that doesn't work, my boy gets in my face and meows. There is no ignoring that.

When I get done with a gallon jug or 2 liter bottle I clean it and fill it up with water and put it in the garage. In case the water system goes down we will have some toilet water. I hope I'm crazy.

I have a composting toilet, when I empty the tray (mine is electric) it doesn't smell and I put it at the base of fruit trees.

Oh dear. I’ve heard you need to let it sit in a large plastic bucket for a year before you put it around your fruit trees.

Not really, my toilet has a fan and a small heater, it is powder when it comes out. If you use a non-electric (mine is 12V) composting toilet you should do a 3 step composting for it which takes about a year. Never use a bucket though! It'll turn into a smelly mess in a bucket!

I KILLED it on frugality last night banana2

I had a late evening chocolate fit. I satisfied it with 1 oreo cookie and 2 rolos. Half a cookie with a rolo was so damn rich...after the 2nd bite I didn't want any more.

Re: Coronavirus Frugality
Hey, is anyone else finding themselves being a lot more frugal and careful about food and other supplies these days?

I've been washing product containers and saving boxes and rubber bands thinking I might need them later. This morning, I was looking for something for breakfast and decided to eat stale Chex Cereal I had left over from making Christmas Chex Mix three months ago! I know I normally would have thrown it out, but now I think, well, it's vitamin fortified and at least edible - why toss it? Use it! Waste not, want not.

We used to eat out at restaurants a lot, but now are cooking meals at home with food we buy at the market. Very frugal. It helps now that all the restaurants are CLOSED.

Milk, and Buttermilk. Don't always have them around, and these are cabinet-worthy for dry storage.

Bob's Redmill Hemp Heart Seeds keep a long time and make a fantastic, green-tasting gorgeous white milk. More nutrition than the Blue Almond watered-down things at the store.

Saco Buttermilk Blend - best biscuits ever, very high recommend.

Re: Coronavirus Frugality
LOL! Yep, it is the hoarding mentality. If you dwell on the crisis, soon enough you will find things along the roadways, that you think you might be able to make something to survive later. Next thing you know your home is not only filled with used and washed package containers, but you also have garbage Galor and half a dozen chickens running loose in your back yard.

There is a silver lining, in about for or five years in a good economy. You will finally relax and clean out your mess. It might take meds, and therapy too. But after the hoarding episode you will be a stronger person.

Yeah unfortunately we have been spending more money lately on food. My wife and I normally try to budget only 200 dollars a week for groceries and the other day my wife went to Costco and spent like 225 dollars and we still hadn't even done the groceries. Ughh how the fuck am I supposed to fix a meal when you spent the money on 50 lb bags of flower or sugar....

I had a bag of split peas on the counter - was thinking about making some soup. From the looks of it, one of my cats chewed a hole in it, knocked it off the counter, and then dragged it around the house while the other one was batting peas everywhere. Meanwhile, the dog and I slept in the adjoining bedroom. Unfortunately, my vacuum broke over the weekend and I ordered a new one from Amazon, but it won't be in until this week. So I swept what I could up. Now I'm thinking...do I wash and use them or throw them away? LOL!

Probably should toss them - right?
 Quoting: GA Girl

Wash them. Boiling kills everything.
