I've been eating like it's going out of style! Fuck FOOD! We don't need it. I kinda hope that we run out of food so I can Live the rest/remainder of my life as a breatharianangel3

I've heard some people say they've been gaining weight because they have been so focused on food supply on one hand and not being able to exercise on the other.

Why wouldn't anyone be able to exercise?

Even prisoners know the value of the basics: push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, and sit-ups. From there you can get "fancy", like horizontal boarding off of any stable vertical pole.

You don't even have to leave your living room for any of this.

If you're not doing it, you just don't want to.

Re: Coronavirus Frugality
Married over 40 years, 5 kids.

Never did this before:

I use half the amount of laundry detergent, fill up the washer with clothes and water, and let it sit and soak a couple hours. Then set it to wash.

I'm a prepper and we have a whole lot of laundry detergent. But, the whole situation seems ominous so I'll stretch it twice as far and hope we dont end up like Venezuela.
 Quoting: Prayandprepare000

There is normally enough soap residue in clothes (people use way too much, do not follow the instructions on the bottle) for at least 3 washes...so just use 1/10th of the soap you normally do for scent. Do a spot spray on heavier stains and such.

The idea you need a whole bunch of laundry detergent is bogus. It's like shampoo...'lather rinse, repeat' just makes it so you use more product.

Definitely OP.

Rationing everything. Salvaging everything. Pringles cans, twist ties, stopped using paper towels to dry hands. We have designated hand towels for each person.

LOL! I was looking at my onions and potatoes, thinking of ways to use them up once they start looking kind of rough. My first thought was fried onion petals. Then I recalled I don't have a ton of oil. Looks like oven-roasted potatoes with a bit of olive oil and some spices for the potatoes and sauteed or creamed onions.

Don't forget baked potatoes for later hash browns, and good old potato soup!

Nope, not at all. I have no fear of this as I feel it is being blown out of proportion to collapse the economy and sell America out to the globalists. If I do catch it and die, I won't have to be here to live under Communism or worse.

Re: Coronavirus Frugality
Hey, is anyone else finding themselves being a lot more frugal and careful about food and other supplies these days?

I've been washing product containers and saving boxes and rubber bands thinking I might need them later. This morning, I was looking for something for breakfast and decided to eat stale Chex Cereal I had left over from making Christmas Chex Mix three months ago! I know I normally would have thrown it out, but now I think, well, it's vitamin fortified and at least edible - why toss it? Use it! Waste not, want not.
 Quoting: GA Girl

Yep, the bride and I are eating half rations most of the time... ie, one hamburger chopped up for tacos or in any kind of sauces, eggs, whatever... making our own bread. Don't do dishes unless the sink is full. (no dish washer). same with laundry... we are locked down and making do.. pray, prep and protect.

Suddenly foodies make more sense. I never shop for a meal specifically, I buy what is on sale and learned to cook. Learning to cook...well I'll pull up the Heinlein quote....

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

This keeps disappearing from the thread, so I'll shorten it and try again. It's helpful, so someone might benefit from it.

Do you have cats? How much food do they leave in their bowls that you toss? Some days, mine eat it all. Other days, they'll leave half a bowl - same flavor - who knows why? A couple of months ago, I started freezing their leftovers - flavors all mixed up, the filet and bits type. I put them in the oven to warm them - served some warm - some were left to cook almost crispy. They ate both types like it was kitty candy.
A couple of weeks ago I started saving a big new batch of their leftovers. So glad because it took 4 days to get on the grocery delivery list. Had I not saved their leftovers, they'd have had nothing.

So, there's another idea for you. Pet food leftovers.

Stale chips and cereals - freshen and crisp them by putting them in the oven a few minutes.

When feasible, re-using paper towels.
 Quoting: Wolf 1776

I pulled out a paper grocery bag & was tossing paper towels into it I had blown my nose with (figured I'd use them for making a fire if needed).

I ended up spilling a glass of juice & used them to wipe it up...saved myself a ton of clean paper towels!

I had an older bunch or bananas that I knew could possibly get too ripe. Sliced them and put them on a flat tray in the freezer. Once frozen I placed them in a freezer bag. Mainly use them for breakfast smoothies. I wouldn’t have done this a few weeks ago. It made me think of my grandparents who lived through the depression.
 Quoting: SmoothSailing

Frozen bananas are great to snack on too! They taste like ice cream all by themselves. My mom used to freeze bananas for me to munch on as a kid. Of course, they’re even better covered in chocolate. A drizzle of the hard shell chocolate on them is wonderful.

When I get done with a gallon jug or 2 liter bottle I clean it and fill it up with water and put it in the garage. In case the water system goes down we will have some toilet water. I hope I'm crazy.

Anyone can exercise - they just have to adjust to a different way of doing it, such as inside their home instead of the gym. Find yourself an old Youtube video of Dancing to the Oldies if nothing else and at least make it fun. I think some people probably have a bit of depression/anxiety over this whole thing that makes it difficult to get off the couch, and if you are not busy, you tend to snack. This, too, will pass.
