Important Information if Need Help with Housing, Food or Other Necessities

I posted this information on an other post where a GLPer needed some help and I thought I should make it a post for others. I hope it helps a family.

For housing needs, contact your City or County housing authority to see if they are taking applications for their Public Housing communities and their Voucher Program. If not, ask when their wait lists will be open so you can sign up then. Also ask for a list of the local Section 8 apartment complexes in your city that have their own funding from HUD and not associated with the housing authority. Contact them and signup on their lists too if they are taking applications no matter the length of time you may have to wait on their list. You will probably need their assistance later as much as now.

Ask the housing authority for a list of all your City's Food Banks and local social agencies to help you with your rent (if renting) electric bill and other utilities. A lot of Churches also have social programs for their community too that you may want to contact. Also you can signup for SNAP which is the old food stamp program. The housing authority can also give you the information for your State's program too. Don't give up just keep keep in contact with the agencies with your current contact information or they will take your name off their lists and then contact the next eligible family on their list.Good luck and be safe!
