A beard is useful during the winter to help keep your throat warm.

Meaning when you go out. Good luck walking around and trying to breathe through one of those things. I had one and tossed it. I'd rather take my chances with a cold than suffocation.

Really? I had one that was full rubber and had screw-on filters (no eye cover though) Thing was impossible to breathe through.

The fact that you are calling this a "cold" tells me everything I need to know.

I shaved. I get some sun on my face every day, but more skin showing would produce more vitamin D in my thinking. That's natural D, not synthetic for those about to point me to a pill.

Beards are biologically designed to catch shit and keep it from going IN your mouth in the first place. Same with nostril hair. Small particles will attach to the hairs first instead of going straight down your windpipe into your lungs. Just wash your fucking face like any other part of your body. How are people this stupid Jesus.

No matter what mask you choose your breathing will be restricted. But in my own experience I find that the half face and full face respirators are slightly more open and the filters are more breathable than the cotton/fiber material on disposables. In my experience they also accumulate less moisture and are leaps and bounds more secure. But hell, if you really want to go crazy about it, go get yourself an air supplied full-face or hood and you'll be good to go!

I shaved last Wed. the Guys at work hardly recognized Me ... I didn't shave because of the virus, I just do that periodically ... I don't think shaving will be a good idea , if You cut Yourself it wwould be a pathway for the virus to enter ... My opinion ...

Here's a tip for people that don't want to shave. Wear a face/head sock with your mask. Tight enough to conform to your face and it cuts down the potential for a loose seal. Sure it might look ridiculous in a casual setting but if you're truly concerned about contracting a fatal virus it shouldn't matter.

In all honesty wearing a mask here and there won't be a fool proof way of protecting yourself. If you really wanted to protect yourself you would leave the house as little as possible and for those that work for a living that's going to be a little unrealistic. But if you still haven't contracted the virus up until the point that it becomes a full blown crisis with quarantine measures and martial law in effect, only then could I realistically reccomend this kind of prep. But to each his own.

I acquired 25 a couple of months ago along with a UV-C sterilizer (it's a box you put things in and just run it for 10 minutes). People forget that they are contaminated (or potentially) and after you take them off, they are meant to be discarded. So without properly killing viruses and bacteria, you'd actually be more likely to get infected by using it if you don't either toss it (properly and wash your hands) or sterilize it.
