So OP, just to be clear, you’re saying that a supplier of parts to the US auto industry can’t get those parts because they are made in China and as a result, the auto manufacturers will invoke force majuer clause to break the contract? If so, wouldn’t said supplier and/or auto manufacturer have to seek another markets to procure the parts in question? Sounds like there were no business continuity plans in place.

If companies have revenue tied to long term contracts, these will be broken and a lot of mix up happening to reset supply chains.

No manufacturers need these parts in their cars. All these parts are made China. Zero suppliers outside of China.

They can't use Force Majeure to avoid paying the customers doctor and hospital bills. FFS. That is the entire purpose of health insurance. However, they could file bankruptcy if a large percentage of the country ends up needing medical care.

Most force majeure clauses do not excuse a party's non-performance entirely, but only suspend it for the duration of the event in question. Another big problem will the millions living month to month. I they have to all stay home for a month or month and a half, that would put many in a pickle.
