And they offer their language arts and a few other free e-resources. If you have a bright or gifted kid.... be willing to not do the insane repetitions. Just write a note as to why you skipped things for record keeping stuffs. Average students need 10 to 18 repetitions Bright students need 5 to 8 repetitions Gifted students need 1 to 2 repetitions [link to www.goodandbeautiful.com (secure)] |

Completely awesome if you want to build your own lesson plans, which I don't really want to do, but it's looking like I'm going to have to. I was finally able to get my kids registered for homeschool. I was going to use all in one homeschool site, but neither of my kids are liking it at all. So I came looking for this thread to see what you guys had already posted. The best stories are told by the survivors. |

I even found two Disney ones because FTW, we need cute. And I soooooo appreciate Iowa.... don’t need lesson plans. And school isn’t compulsory until 6.... so for six more months I don’t have to keep track of stuff. We will be 3/5 through second grade before that! Wooohoooo. We had gotten a printer for free, and today I realized why it was free, and now I'm frustrated enough to want to chuck it off the porch. So printing anything right now is not an option until I can buy one. When I was homeschooling my oldest ones in NY, their laws are very strict, but I think in IN I had the option to unschool. Here in TN I can't just send in a LOI, and I have to specify a curriculum that I plan to use. Even if that means I specify a website, and then use various other resources too. But I only have to keep track of attendance. Teaching the 4 core subjects shouldn't be too hard though. The best stories are told by the survivors. |

(OP) User ID: 76585521 United States 01/31/2021 12:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Update: Reminders: -Keep your day on a schedule as much as possible; teaching from home you need to have some structure and stick to it. -Take some time the week before and using a planner, organize the week to come and check to see links work, etc, order books, buy stuff for science experiments, etc. Make sure you are saving time for read-alouds-for your child to read to you and vice versa. Pick a topic of interest to investigate: create a investigation box of stuff with a notebook; use an old Amazon box, etc. like a rock collection; maps from around the world; or state-specific, country-specific, etc. Devise your own types of assessments with child's input; for example, you want child to learn the parts of the plant cell or skin cell or a blood drop cell--using a worksheet to fill in the names of the parts to learn those names; have child draw their own version using worksheet as a guide; then investigate types of cells and how they are the same or different; try to learn how to spell those vocabulary words; build a cell using legos or print out a puzzle version to do independently...remember what you emphasize is what they will remember.. Last, don't ever say you hate a subject or that it "sucks" If you say you love maths, they will pick up on that emotion--and if you are getting a second chance with a subject by teaching your kid, try to make a fresh start with it and look for how numbers structure our world--hard to explain what I'm getting at but think of it like going back and detangling, getting the knots out of your thinking like detangling a knot in your hair...just a suggestion... Some new links: This has a ton of links, some of which I am putting here below this one [link to www.exquisite-minds.com (secure)] I really like this one Philosophy for kids: lots of [link to www.philosophyforchildren.org (secure)] And from that, this: [link to www.plato-philosophy.org (secure)] Keep in mind some of this you need to read first and do a little prep; and that some may be more liberal than others, so pick and choose UK, The Philosophy Man (your children may already be getting some of this in their school) [link to www.thephilosophyman.com (secure)] This is great and it's free [link to phet.colorado.edu (secure)] many of the sims come with lesson plans mainly for older kids, but younger ones can benefit from the visuals, especially for the states of matter and the make your own atoms is fun [link to www.learner.org (secure)] English/reading resources Reading is alot of vocabulary, and the dictionary is your friend! Creating a mini-dictionary using a real one enables children to "own" their new words by writing them down--true for anything: writing it down helps to develop long-term memories [link to simplyskilledinsecond.com (secure)] Putting words in ABC order to the third letter for primary 2nd to 3rd; lining up words so the letters are under each other cab cake camera cat you get the idea.. also word rhyming word families here's some more: [link to www.k12reader.com (secure)] [link to www.homereadinghelper.org (secure)] this is for the dictionary, but a great resource when you go back to the home page [link to minds-in-bloom.com (secure)] This is a good resources for at-home science experiments [link to youngscientistlab.com (secure)] A lot of UK legends with photos of historical sites (caution uses flash and may be hard to load) [link to myths.e2bn.org] [link to www.englishworksheetsland.com (secure)] 1st grade math minute pdf [link to www.whsd.k12.pa.us (secure)] Do one or two a day (print them out--I suggest printing the whole thing as this may disappear) Discovery Education free puzzlemakers [link to puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com (secure)] Life finds a way. |

Especially in a world where rage and ignorance is a status quo. With these tools, they won’t overreact to bullies or assholes. And they can find humor in even the darkest of times. Why We Need to Teach Kids Emotional Intelligence It's the most important skill we can pass on. Less than 50% 1. Self-awareness. Knowing our own emotions. 2. Self-regulation. Being able to regulate and control how we react to our emotions. 3. Internal motivation. Having a sense of what’s important in life. 4. Empathy. Understanding the emotions of others. 5. The other 80% of your curriculum should be how to fix refrigerators, washing machines, the wiring under a sink, plumbing, how to code. Teach jobs that Bill Gates would think gives you a reason to live, like coding, or mechanics for fixing robots. Since he's gonna kill off most people he sees as useless |
