It's a matter of IDENTITY.

You choose an identity, and that identity both brings you together with other people and separates you from other people at the same time. What identity you choose determines the outcome.

Imagine a black American man.

Let's say he identifies as an American patriot. He subscribes to American culture and common American values 100 %, and sees them as his own culture and values. He is proud of American achievements, and sees them as triumphs of "his team" in life, triumphs which he shares credit for as an American. Is this black man going to cause a lot of trouble?

No!

But what if he instead primarily identifies himself as black? Let's say he refuses to identify with anything that has to do with white Americans, and goes out of his way to build his entire identity as a human being around being black. Is he going to cause a lot of trouble now?

Yes!

Because he has now identified himself by the thing that separates him from the majority society around him rather than by the things that unites him with it. He will attempt to make the distinction between himslef and white Americans sharper by "acting more black" in every way he can think of, actively rejecting any behavior or way of thinking that he thinks is associated with whites. And then he is going to be on a constant collision course with the white majority society around him, possibly leading him into criminality or other antisocial behaviors.

Do they? A lot of our adults sadly agree with them. There are a lot of idiots out there not just at colleges.

It's been many years since I was at college / university but racial and cultural segregation was common place and naturally self occurring. Of course people would mingle but generally congregated according to race / culture between classes.

These "youngsters" are the product of that "adult university administration"!
