While you make a fair point, it is easier to get at least some of the target with a shot pattern than with a single projectile weapon.
But between the racking and the boom you should hear some retreating footsteps. Nobody knows if you shoot clay pigeons with slugs when they are in your house at 3am.
So, it is, kinda, easier.
