I'd pick West Virginia as the ideal state to be in.

The best way to prep for stormy weather of any type is to turn on your salt lamps and glue negative ions disks to fans.

Storms are "ion sandwiches." Salt lamps and ion disks - especially when on fans at high speed - generate enough ions to calm the storm some and enough to keep roofs in place, etc.

A friend of mine had salt lamps in every room of her house except one during Hurricane Michael. All were dry except the one room that didn't have a slat lamp.

I used a fan with disks on it. My entire block keep their thin metal roofs. It was on Mack Lewis Drive in Panama City.

What's a salt lamp?

Never heard of this before....

It's an actual plug in lamp made with pink salt. In addition to a nice low key pink glow, they generate negative ions. Walmart and other places carry them. Not use about the price...maybe $15?

I've studied tornado averages for 25 years. This map is interesting. [link to wordpress.accuweather.com (secure)]

Virtually no tornadoes... but what about the people? Are they inviting?

If you see a tornado, it's safer to run towards it because you can't outrun it. That way you'll show dominance and it will back away. Raise your arms and shout "No tornado!!! No!!! Go Away tornado!!!".

NO! If you see a tornado, it's safer to play dead. Just lie there and it will leave you alone.

I've been to the state a few times. I never noticed anything to be concerned with. I think if people show respect they will most likely receive it back too.

Actually, there is some truth in this! If it is known to be no more than an EF-0 or at the most, an EF-1 you can get by practically unscathed, even if it goes right over the top of you. Here is the EF Scale:

EF-0: 65-85mph
EF-1: 86-110 mph
EF-2: 111-135 mph
EF-3: 136-165 mph
EF-4: 166-200 mph
EF-5: 200+ mph

By laying down flat on your stomach with you hands over your head, legs together, an EF-0 will pass over you without injury and an EF-1 will with minor injuries. Above that you will be more at risk. But again, at EF-0 and EF-1, you can easily survive it even if it's a direct encounter with you.
