I got one of them see thru umbrellas. I open it, stand underneath it and then close it.

I thought this thread was going to be about where to get alternatives to products that can’t be shipped from China anymore.
Any sarcasm in this post is purely intentional.

Great thread idea Maiya. I initially had no idea what I may contribute, but this post below made me realize it may be wise to see where your medications are made and I wish to correct an error in the use of insulin.

<snip>

Diabetics should be putting up hard candies to eat when they can not get insulin. I would think a lot of people are going to die because they can not get their meds.

<snip>
 Quoting: s 78009776

Diabetics use insulin to lower their blood sugar. If they have no insulin they must not be eating candy as that will raise their blood glucose to dangerous levels. It is only eaten if blood glucose levels drop dangerously low.

My body makes subtle changes that indicate my blood glucose is high - sweating, frequent urination. And also changes when too low - mental confusion and slowly diminishing ability to see. Learn your own body's or loved ones body's signs of incorrect blood glucose as that can save your lives, even if it is not scientifically measured and quantified, it is a rough indicator and is better than nothing.

As for medications, find out now where any you require are made. I had taken two made in Beijing. Now I do not, my doctor changed them to one made in the U.S. and one made in Israel.

Do you have a good relationship with your doctor? If so simply tell him or her of your concerns and ask for a greater-sized prescription, they may do so and you'll have personal stocks of it. At the worst they may not, but you won't know if you don't try. I now have ninety day supplies of several almost identical medications. I can go over a year without getting them filled if it came to that because I have a one-year supply between all of them. Insulin? Instead of a few insulin pens or vials a month, my doctor wrote a prescription for 135 of them in December. Now I have one-half shelf in my refrigerator filled with insulin.

And don't forget required non-medicines like needles!! My insulin may be made in the U.S. and Switzerland but the needles come from Japan. They may be bought without prescription in the U.S. so buy at least a year's worth of them as they are very cheap.

Those are my tips and contributions, I will try to think of more to share

don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.

Thank you so much for the correction. I am not a diabetic but my best friend is and I was thinking candy for it as I see diabetics with candy sometimes. I am going to see if we can get some extra insulin for her because she just started taking it last year.

Any suggestions on food to store and diabetic care is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Maybe someone needs to start a thread on it. How to manage your illness if you can not get your meds. I don't want to lose my best friend from something stupid like a lack of insulin.

You are indeed a best friend for someone to have hugs

I'll think of more tips and post them. Some may cost but they can eliminate some of the instances where infection may occur.

This can be her thread bump, I'll post more, perhaps Maiya will be back after church time and see what we are contributing and she'll have more ideas too.

I saw somewhere that people were making a shield out of a plastic bottle to wear OVER the mask. I'm saving a couple of our giant plastic jugs.

I thought the masks were more for keeping sock people from infecting others, rather than personal protection.

What about filter media from a brand-new unused automotive air or oil filter?

What about a water-bath filter, using 200 ppm colloidal silver?

Here is an insulin [recovery / non-waste?] tip that comes to mind.

When an insulin pen is 'empty', that is when the dial cannot be turned past zero, look inside the glass. There's still twenty units of insulin inside.

I have just done something that I have done out of habit for ten years: used a syringe to extract the remaining twenty units from the pen exact as one would do with an insulin vial.

For someone without healthcare or with poor healthcare the savings are substantial. A Generic insulin pen such as Humalog retails at $314.88 or discounted at $126.45 in the US. A box of 100 syringes available for $25 to $50 pays for itself after using insulin from a few pens that you would normally have discarded. I have done this for years.

I know this is a CV alternative thread but as the poster asked on page one, he wishes to be able to help his friend. I am providing answers; all knowledge helps.

Bless you for this! Even in "normal" times this represents a substantial cash savings which is not to be sniffed at in this very expensive ailment called "diabetes"! I do not have it, thank God, but do have multiple other AI diseases.
