He could not come back in this fight. He may never again be the same. Quoting: MarPep Remember when Ray Leonard had that detached retina.. I hope Wilder fully recovers and returns to form for Bout #3.. I think that detached retina was really more cocaine than Bogota in Ray's soon to be tested bloodstream. |

Quoting: Grey Eagle And I thought Fury might get a cut-opening on that pre-existing injury during training camp.. It was a shame it was so early but then again every second in there is a chance one of those windmills land so that was clearly the game plan. Was a worry to see Wilder so ‘exposed’ & bleeding from the ear. It was over after the first round, would have been nice to see some ‘boxing’ rather than a bare knuckle type bout but, he was superbly dominant. I don’t think AJ could handle that consistency in coming forward. & AJ doesn’t have the best chin either although I’m a big fan & rate him as the best all round fighter (boxer) in the world at the mo. Was watching this 1-2 minutes before i read your post.. Okay, I see why you hold Ruiz in such high regard. Can you imaging a fight between Fury and Ruiz? Ruiz will only be at a disadvantage due to his short 6'-2" size against a towering 6'-9" Fury. What's AJ - 6'-6"?? Think a huge Usain Bolt against the rest of the 6' 1" sprinters in that start line.. At 100 or 200 meters, not 50.. Yeah, it may have been an excuse. He did admit to being a coke fiend and he had marital (Juanita) problems also around that time. Though I loved him against Hearns and his gold in Montreal .. I was his biggest critic back then. He was an opportunistic gamesmanship guy that used his ... 'retirements' ... lol ... always to maximum-effect ($$$$$$$). And he played way too many of those games with Marvin to get me to like him over Hagler. Late 10-second-flurries don't impress. Unless you be an owned LV 'judge'... You should have fought MH in a 16' ring, Ray!!! Wilder got hit just behind the ear and the shot was just hard enough to do real damage and he never recovered. Basically an extreme case of a lucky punch, sort of like getting hit by lightning. Quoting: Icebear the lightnings name was Tyson Fury. And he struck again and again. |

While Wilder has that great punch, he knew Fury could really hurt him too, and he did. Fury is lightning quick for his size, and is a fantastic boxer too. Hope he manages to hold his mental health together now and goes on to hold all the titles for years. |

Was watching this 1-2 minutes before i read your post.. I’ll never forget that fight lol, what a shocker. Ruiz plants himself really well throw, good old kinetics, with that much weight behind you, if you have a reasonable technique & are in balance then physics does the rest. Unfortunately for Ruiz, no fighter will ever spend a couple of rounds working him out again. That size simply can’t have the stamina to ‘all out’ box for long so he will not be gifted opportunity to land again lol. He literally took Josh apart after that first heave blow lol. I said back then that it was the best thing that could have ever happened to AJ, & going back to basics & getting Klitschko involved was exactly the right play. I just don’t know how AJ will fight Fury. AJ is by far the more rounded boxer but Fury is resilient, relentless has ability & more ‘boxers spirit’ than most. It will certainly be interesting. I really think there is something about those fast blows that glance across the surface of the skull, not sure if it’s ‘friction’ or what it is but, some fighters just absolutely get destroyed by them. For some they seem to have a ‘lasting’ effect, no chance of recovery, just game over lol. But back to Andy, I loved Ruiz in that fight, a boxers boxer will grind him down but.............. with that ability he has, if you let him in the door then you are fighting one of the baddest men on the planet lol. Combine that with the fact that, ‘WHEN’ you hurt him, that many will come at you like an absolute train within seconds, that is when he seems to be at his most dangerous. & with that power & balanced technique behind him...........you are absorbing EVERY psi f that blow like a punchbag unless you’re moving back. That’s what makes him great to watch. And.............a real gentleman to boot. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer but a super nice chap whom does boxing the world of good. He could not come back in this fight. He may never again be the same. Quoting: MarPep It did, and that’s when fear enters the arena & that is exhausting in itself on that stage. It was like the AJ vs Ruiz fight, just no coming back from that. A shame to see Wilder in that position really, I am not a huge fan of his ‘boxing’, but he IS a great competitor & he knew the game was over but still stuck in there. It’s exciting to have a huge one puncher around at times but the ‘must’ be in near perfect condition to land that sledgehammer, you stun them & the opportunity doesn’t present itself, then it’s just chipping away....... I hope he recovers well but from memory the re-match clause was for it to be held pretty soon after & that’s not good news for Wilder. It will be interesting to see how he handles this, psychologically to his opponents & for the entire industry he needs to reinstate that ‘knockout’ reputation, that means a few fights we don’t really want to see & he is not a ‘young’ boxer anymore. It’s a tough call to come back from. GLP alert level 2; "Go get a Hard Hat:. GLP alert level 1; "Put the fucking Hat on:. |

Quoting: Icebear Yeah, I was saying this earlier, it’s a fascinating anomaly. Watch the punch that ended it for AJ against Ruiz...... There is a punch that ends it for many fighters...... .....that grazing/glancing blow across the scalp. Goodness knows what it is, friction & static energy affecting the brain? Don’t know, but..........it absolutely finishes many off, no recovery from it, top of the head or toward the back, either way, when it strikes, it’s game over, no impact needed.
