Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
Since the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) we have learned that it is more or less a virus, which in serious cases may lead to severe and even critical problems to the lungs and respiratory system.

We have also learned that right now there is no official cure or vaccine available, hence the suggested method of healing is "supportive" and not "combative" "quoting 001 ;-)". I would thus like to make a thread on natural remedies/ herbs and herbals which may strengthen the lungs and respiratory system, and also boost the immune system, to help survive a potentially deadly virus infection.

Any comment or experience about "strengthening your respiratory and immune system via natural remedies and herbals" please feel free to share!

I will start with known herbals from Indonesia that could help to strengthen and to clean/detox the lungs. Keep in mind that Indonesia has hundreds, if not thousands of years of experience in using herbal ingredients in medicine provided by its vast jungles and rich nature, for example "Jamu": [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)]

On top of it Indonesians are used and experienced, to some of the worst infections and viruses still making its rounds here as i write this (dengue fever, malaria, Zika virus, rabies with 100% mortality rate just to name a few) also experienced all kind of viruses coming down from china in the past (bird flu, swine flu, etc etc). Hence people here are actually pretty relaxed and making fun bout Corona.

Anyway, if you are interested, do a bit of research on your own... You can make many types of drink and tea mixes (recommend daily intake) with any of the following:

1. Ginger (anti oxidant, anti inflammation, cleans excess mucus from lungs)
2. Turmeric (anti viral, anti bacterial)
3. Shallot onion (cleanses throat and helps with throat inflammation)

"Jamu" recipe (use translate) with above ingredients: [link to jabar.tribunnews.com (secure)]

4. Apple (rich in phenolic acid and flavonoids, known to help control lung inflammation , to help with asthma)

5. Garlic (rich in allicin, useful against bacterial lung infection)

6. Green tea (removes fluids from lungs)

7. Food rich in "Carotenoids" like carrots, spinach, kale or pumpkin (antioxidant vitamins are positively associated with lung function and respiratory health)

8.And the best one i put at last, we call it in Indonesia "cocor bebek (duck leave)" , Latin: "kalanchoe pinnata", and it supposed to have mystical healing properties for injured or sick lungs.

[link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)]

A recipe for this one:

[link to m.liputan6.com (secure)]

So you see.. coronavirus might be all doom & gloom, but i strongly believe that for every sickness, nature already prepared the answer loooong in advance... So cheer up, positive thinking and stay healthy

Edit to add - Thanks to "Undestroyer" for pointing this out: Avoiding Food that makes mucus discharge worse, may very well be as important as finding food that lessens the discharge

Edit to add 2 - Turmeric & Ginger, recommended by survivalist Dr who went through real SHTF in Venezuela: [link to my72.news.blog (secure)]

Excellent post OP. Thank you! We are also increasing our already daily intake of natural teas with green tea, ginger, turmeric and local honey, garlic, etc. None of us are on any chemical medications/pharmaceuticals which is a huge plus. We take all natural alternatives including oil of oregano in a bit of water. hf

Lobelia Inflata, aka Indian tobacco. This herb will expell junk from the lungs. It's typical claim to fame is in helping people quit smoking.
Be careful with it, it can be toxic if you take too much.

How do you take Lobelia? quite easy to acquire but not sure what you do with it .

Be very careful withe lobelia. It can temporarily paralyze you. It have be used in the past to immobilize patients where necessary. Its VERY dangerous if you use too much. Know exactly what your doing if you take it. I recommend you don't!

Looks like a tea with the ground herb is how it's usually done. I guess it used to be smoked, as the thought was that was the best way to get it into the lungs quickly. But from what I've read drinking it as a tea is just as effective.

Be very careful with lobelia. If you don't know what your doing don't use it. Its toxic when ingested and can immobilize a person to the point of paralyses.

Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
I'll repost the e mail I got-
Preventing Coronavirus

In addition to your basic flu prevention, it’s good to protect against new viral outbreaks by taking the following:

• Vitamin C — 5,000 mg once daily
• Zinc — 50 mg once daily
• Vitamin A — 20,000 units once daily

If you know you’ve been exposed or the epidemic worsens, you can increase the dose to twice daily.

Additional considerations include one of the following:

• Echinacea — I recommend the liquid extract of Echinacea root or E. purpurea.
Take four droppersful (slightly over 1/4 teaspoon each) twice daily.
• 1,3 BetaGlucan — Take one tablet twice daily
• MycoPhyto Complex — Take one tablet twice daily

Again, if you know you’ve been exposed or the epidemic worsens, you can increase the dose to twice daily.
Coronavirus Protocol for Treatment

If prevention fails and you do come down with the virus,
begin taking the following immediately:

• Vitamin C — 2,500 mg six times daily for one week, then take twice daily.
If this dosage causes digestive issues, use liposomal vitamin C (available online).
According to vitamin C expert Thomas Levy, MD, JD, liposomal vitamin C is a highly effective way to deliver more vitamin C to the tissues. His research indicates that 90% of the liposomal vitamin C moves into the tissues. So if you take 6 grams of liposomal vitamin C, your body will absorb 5.4 grams of it.

• Zinc — 25–50 mg twice daily for one week, then take once daily.

• Vitamin A — 20,000 units twice daily for one week, then one time daily for another week.
Women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy should not exceed 5,000 IU of vitamin A in a given day.

• Colloidal/Hydrosol Silver — 1 tablespoon every hour. Hold in your mouth for two minutes,
then swallow.

• Nebulized DILUTE Peroxide — Use every hour as needed or directed. Your alternative-minded
doctor can provide this for you for about $20.

• Custom Homeopathic viral — Take every hour as directed. An alternative-minded doctor
can design this for you.

If you’re taking these treatments and your symptoms worsen, you should begin to take the following IV therapies:

• IV Vitamin C
• IV Dilute peroxide
• IV Silver
• IV Ultraviolet light therapy
• IV Ozone

It’s likely the IV vitamin C and the ozone will be plenty to take out any viral infection you may encounter.
But the others can be added as needed.

Because the Coronavirus is similar to other upper respiratory infections, such as the H1N1 virus, the biggest
problem comes when the infection turns into pneumonia. Most of us don’t have to worry about that. For us, many
of these illnesses are harmless. They become dangerous when your immune system is compromised. So make sure
you’re doing everything you can to keep your immunity up.

In the next few months, the number of cases around the world is going to climb. It’s impossible to completely
contain the virus, especially given the pace and complexity of international travel.
But with this protocol in hand, there’s no reason to panic. More than likely the worst you
ever experience is the mild symptoms of cold. Yes, this is a serious and novel pathogen.
But it isn’t impossible to beat. In fact, given the right treatments, you really have nothing to worry about.
Let the news display their hysteria — you’re protected.
I've gotten a lot of red for telling the truth and being right. Just sayin'

Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
Just a little tidbit of info.

Remember the movie Contagion? The one guy claiming the cure was FORSYTHIA. Do you know that Forsythia is in Airborne Original "Crafted Blend"....under Proprietary Herbal Blend.

Do you know that back during the Spanish Flu....that some people in the south in the US made a little bag of herbs to be worn around the neck to ward off the flu. That little bag contained Asafoetida. My mom didn't just wear it around her neck....she ate it.

Everyone in her family of 9 caught the Spanish flu except my mom who was only 7 years old at that time.

Let that sink it for a minute.

We need to cross reference all the recommendations in this thread with information about cytokines.
Zinc, echinacea, and some others noted here can be deadly re cytokine storm, so we have to know timing - what / when to take and when to stop.

Cytokine storm is what kills.

Research Cytokine Storm. Don't have the link but read somewhere that if a person has built up a strong immunity that when virus attack it can cause this to happen as well as people with auto immune systems.

Not disagreeing with OP post just say everyone research to arrive at their own treatment about this and other treatments.

Vit D and B6 (with of course enough Vit C, as always). But D and B6 will prevent you, they say, from even having a CS in the 1st place.

Get B6 drops – He (video below) also recommend hydrogen infused water. But B6 he really stresses as an important way to stop a Cytokine Storm which is the largest cause of death caused by this coronavirus – See around 25 minute mark: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] If you have adequate amounts of B6 in you, you will NOT experience a “Cytokine Storm” from this coronavirus. As a potential care-taker of sick people from this virus, you want to eat liver (or other ways to intake natural B6), but also get some B6 supplements, the drops are likely the fasting acting.

Also, take NAC great for lungs and also stops cytokine storm and viruses on different levels.

Cytokine Storm (Immune system overdrive) is another threat from COVID-19 infection. Some herbs may increase the severity of Cytokine Storm.

Other herbs may decrease the severity of Cytokine Storm (for example turmeric or garlic - subject to further research and will update if any new findings)

"Most importantly, curcumin (-turmeric has lots of curcumin-) has been shown to stimulate the suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) proteins (34). These proteins have been shown to be crucial in protecting against severe cytokine storm in mice infected with influenza virus (35)." [link to iv.iiarjournals.org]

If my kid is sick i go to the docter or hospital..its the safe thing to do.

But these are extraordinary events at an extraordinary time, requires sharp thinking

No matter what, we should not give up to look for solutions, even if all ICU beds are full, and it would be wise to prepare and try preventive measures in the correct way.

Herbs are nature & universe gifts, they have physical effects and non-physical/ non tangible.. the ancients always knew verycool

Anyway i stick with the herbs, not so sure about having silver residues in my organs..

Colloidal silver is LIKELY UNSAFE when taken by mouth, applied to the skin, or injected intravenously (by IV). The silver in colloidal silver products gets deposited into organs such as the skin, liver, spleen, kidney, muscle, and brain. This can lead to an irreversible bluish looking skin that first appears in the gums. It can also stimulate melanin production in skin, and areas exposed to the sun will become increasingly discolored
 Quoting: Nagabonar666

Many here in GLP are kinda true believer of Coloidal Silver. SO, I think those have made up their mind to use that. I won't. I prefer Herbs.

Now on Oreganol P73, if you follow discussion here in GLP, it seem to be quite potent and quick acting oil for flu. It's made from Oregano, also a potent herb. It's just that I'm not sure they sell this in Indonesia. It seem to be not popular in Indonesia.

Therer were some GLPers who claimed smoking/Tobbaco/Nicotine will prevent coronavirus infection. Now, this one is simply their claim, no study found for this. But there's a use of tobacco as a natural pesticide. So, perhaps it could kill germs and viruses.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78450292

Thanks for pointing this out, will include the oregano in summary later. We do have the oregano here but not the oil i guess..

With 4 kids we have a lot of germs coming in and out of our house! I have a protocol of sorts to keep everyone healthy. One of my girls came down with the flu 2 weeks ago. I ended up taking her to the pediatrician where they noted that she had not been there in 3 years.

Long story short, consider using Nigella Stavia otherwise known as Black Seed Oil. Its benefits are well documented in numerous studies. For example:

"While the magnitude of benefit has not yet been compared to reference drugs, nigella sativa extracts appear to benefit lung function in both asthmatics and persons with otherwise damaged lung function"

For the more scientifically minded you can give this a read

I’d drink chai tea.

Most of it has Cardamom which is known to work against viruses. Some varieties of it contain Star anise which they make Tamiflu from. Most have cinnamon and cloves which are antiviral. Some have ginger which increases immunity. Some have black pepper which is antibacterial.

Just check the label of whatever kind you’re buying. Unless you’re particularly sensitive to any of the spices there really isn’t a good reason not to drink it.

Stash makes a double spice version which has tons of cinnamon. Eastern Shore makes a decaf tiger chai if you don’t want excess caffeine and it has a pretty good dose of pepper.

I have a question for those in the know about the herbal remedies.

I have almost all of that stuff but I never know how much of what to use in the preparation of the tea/potions. I eat garlic and hot peppers with just about everything so not concerned about that one.

How much tumeric do you use when preparing a concoction?

How much ginger? does it need to be freshly grated ginger or is dried ginger ok?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73449903

Personally, I take a lot of my herbals in capsule form.
I buy the vegetarian empty capsules in bulk for cheap and fill them myself.
Quick way to grab and go in the morning and before bed.

As far as Tumeric, I mix mine 50/50 with ground black pepper (for pain) I take 2 capsules every morning.

Ginger, I mostly eat fresh or fresh ground in tea.
And for a sweet treat instead of keeping bad candy around, I make sugared "crystalized" ginger.
Lots of recipes for it online.
Sugared keeps a long time sealed up.

My other supplements like NAC and vitamins are commercial pills.

Other fresh herbs, like hand picked dandelion just gets eaten fresh or sauteed like most edible greens. yum!

Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
Lobelia Inflata, aka Indian tobacco. This herb will expell junk from the lungs. It's typical claim to fame is in helping people quit smoking.
Be careful with it, it can be toxic if you take too much.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72972704

How do you take Lobelia? quite easy to acquire but not sure what you do with it .
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78268699

Looks like a tea with the ground herb is how it's usually done. I guess it used to be smoked, as the thought was that was the best way to get it into the lungs quickly. But from what I've read drinking it as a tea is just as effective.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72972704

Be very careful with lobelia. If you don't know what your doing don't use it. Its toxic when ingested and can immobilize a person to the point of paralyses.

You have been warned!

Eventhough it seems to have medicinal properties, i better not include in front.. sounds scary

Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
This is a new list of items and I thank you for putting this thread together everyone.

My main question would be, how do we get these herbal remedies from reputable sources at a cost that is affordable in a timely manner to be used ?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78253338

Personally we consume these regularly, easy to get , easy to prepare:

Turmeric (root or powder form) golden tea recipe in front page 3-4 times a week, and ginger (i just crush one and put into my morning coffee). I regularly drink green tea during lunch and love the occasional spoon of honey. I snack on apples, while watching after work cartoons with my son..

Also we are trying to generally eat a bit healthier, reduce meat, reduce milk...increase vegetables, increase fruits, avoid ice, drink more normal water

Re: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19
Thread: A little Herb Summary vs COVID-19

Herbals from around the world: Improve Lung Function, Respiratory, Boost Immune System & lessen Cytokyne Storm against Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Since the coronavirus (COVID-19) we have learned that it is more or less a virus, which in serious cases may lead to severe and even critical problems to the lungs and respiratory system.

We have also learned that right now there is no official cure or vaccine available, hence some are suggesting "supportive" and "preventive" treatment. I would thus like to make a thread on natural remedies/ herbs and herbals which may strengthen the lungs and respiratory system, and also boost the immune system or even lessen the severity of Cytokyne storm, to help survive a potentially deadly virus infection.

"Jamu" recipe with above ingredients: scroll down to third post for Recipes

So you see.. coronavirus might be all doom & gloom, but i strongly believe that for every sickness, nature already prepared the answer loooong in advance... So cheer up, positive thinking and stay healthy

Edit to add 3 - Cytokine Storm (Immune system overdrive) is another threat from COVID-19 infection. Some herbs may increase the severity of Cytokine Storm.
Other herbs may decrease the severity of Cytokine Storm (for example turmeric or garlic - subject to further research and will update if any new findings)
