They just invented a new algorithm called Odocrypt which changes every 10 days so that ASICs cannot take over the mining. Digibyte developers created this for free. By adding an ASIC resistant algo, the security of the blockchain was increased even more.

By the end of this year, perhaps sooner, Digibyte will be implementing an algo called ProgPOW which is a GPU (graphics card) algorithm that cannot be taken over by ASICs. They will also be implementing an algorithm called RandomX which uses CPU power only and cannot be taken over by ASICs. This will add even more decentralization to the mining and increase the security of the blockchain even further. Although the Digibyte developers did not write these two algos, they realize the value of them for decentralization and they are currently integrating these algos into the next release(s).
