They only serve to keep what comes out of you IN, and only large particulates. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16762662 Short of being in complete isolation there is nothing you can do. Wash your hands as often as possible, carry hand sanitizer and wipes, minimize what you touch, and don't touch your face or eyes! Being single will have a huge advantage, as we can avoid all contact with children, schoolteachers, and other vulnerable people. Hospital emergency rooms would be good to avoid. I have an appointment this week in an office in a hospital, but I don't make much contact with anyone. I still won't touch the door handles and elevator buttons or anything else. I advise the ladies to remove your nail polish and don't wear it more than a day when it's on. It harbors a lot of gross stuff. I wouldn't get public manis or pedis right now either. They will help keep water droplets carrying the virus out. Like if someone sneezed or coughed near you. But yea, it's a good time to be an introvert. |

User ID: 75639580 United States 01/26/2020 11:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a good stockpile of masks from the Ebola days. I never got on the doomhype train before, but the Ebola scare convinced me to stock up a bit. I have a military CBRN/NBC gas mask, a couple legit, current issue NBC filters, a few expired Israeli/NATO NBC filters (expired or not they'll still work for almost everything, dunno if I'd trust it in a room full of VX but fine for everything else), and a handful of 3M P100 filters with a bayonet to 40mm adapter so I can throw 3M filters on the gas mask. That should take care of me for a while. Got a bunch of good disposable masks to pass out to those dearest to me if need be. I realized I didn't have enough for other people so I ordered some more from Amazon but like 95% of them were sold out. I did, however, find some that weren't labeled with 'temporarily out of stock' or 'ships in 1 to 3 months'. Hearing rumors about supermarkets being shut down and/or travel being completely restricted in Wuhan, it occurred to me that I would be in a bit of trouble if I was suddenly unable to get food/water or if I had to bug out. So I'm making efforts to take care of that. I want to at least have enough to keep myself fed for either a month if I'm on my own or one week per person if I'm able to drag my family along. I figure that if I really need to depend exclusively on my preps longer than that, then there has been a complete societal collapse and we're pretty screwed. I dunno. I'm not the type of person to fall for doom hype. But there is a doubt at the back of my mind about this thing becoming a 'nothing burger'. China didn't lock down 50 million people because of SARS with its 30% mortality rate, so why are they doing it with a virus that has a 1%-3% mortality? Why would a disease not much more deadly than the flu (as is the claim) cause an unprecedented, largest mass quarantine in history? There is something China isn't telling us. And considering they recently discovered the virus is spread during the 1+ week asymptomatic period, this thing was not contained. It's already worldwide. Give it another week and it will be confirmed everywhere. Give it another week and we will know if we should panic or not; but by then everything will already be bought up. For those of you who haven't prepared, you're running out of time. Last Edited by KonspiracyKitty on 01/26/2020 11:55 AM |

You need a suit with an internal O2 system. You Normies out there have no idea what you are up against. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77732059 We do what we can, with what is available to us. Very few GLPers are into victimhood submission. We will only go down after giving a hard fight. It looks to me like they are mostly sold out on Amazon. The few remaining are charging astronomical prices. I still have cases of n95 from the ebola doom, and n99 reusables w/ lots of filter replacements for each family member. Yes, they don't filter 100%, but beats the alternative option of zero filtration. Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot withstand the storm" the warrior whispers back "I am the storm" INTJ-A |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77732059 Hopefully most people keep preparations enough for a few weeks at home and won't need it. Seriously, the only people who should be out if this really were to become an issue is medical personnel in full suits. The rest of you STAY HOME and watch movies or rest. Don't get crazy but make sure you have staples, fresh water, toilet paper, the basics. And if you are told to stay home so as not to get sick, just do it. How hard is that really?? |

Why would you go out in a mask when it's so easy to keep a basic pantry and just stay out of public if there are infection risks? I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this. And as medical personnel, I would be irritated as fuck if people go out with their "masks" creating more emergency calls, work, and risk for ME. It's irresponsible and stupid frankly. I just shake my head because I always keep enough food in this house for like 3 weeks. Some of that is due to the fact I live in the country and am busy so I just stock up to save time. But it seems just common sense. My parents always did this as well! |

We are fully prepared to lockdown at home, as are most GLPers, but until a lockdown order is given, most people will still have to earn a living. That is where the masks come into play. Yes, I agree, keep your ass at home and don't cause more burden to healthcare workers than they will already be suffering. Stay home, and hopefully this thing will burn out.
