Sorry if this has already been posted.

Basically, this doctor is saying that it is pointless to make a booster shot for omicron because everyone will get it within 3-6 months anyway. It is that contagious. Hopefully, it is just a "cold" as a number of people are saying otherwise we can expect hospitals to be hopelessly overrun.

The Omicron variant of the virus that causes Covid-19 likely acquired at least one of its mutations by picking up a snippet of genetic material from another virus - possibly one that causes the common cold - present in the same infected cells, according to researchers.

This genetic sequence does not appear in any earlier versions of the coronavirus, called SARS-CoV-2, but is ubiquitous in many other viruses including those that cause the common cold, and also in the human genome, researchers said.

By inserting this particular snippet into itself, Omicron might be making itself look "more human," which would help it evade attack by the human immune system, said Venky Soundararajan of Cambridge, Massachusetts-based data analytics firm nference, who led the study posted on Thursday on the website OSF Preprints.

The new omikron variant of the coronavirus has now been found in about a third of all US states. Still, the delta variant of the virus remains responsible for 99.9 percent of all infections in the country, US health officials said on Sunday.

The omikron variant has spread to at least sixteen states:

Massachusetts,
Minnesota,
Missouri,
Nebraska,
New Jersey,
New York,
Pennsylvania,

Washington and Wisconsin.

Many of the omikron infections involve people who have been fully vaccinated.

A ACE2 CHEWING GUM THAT COULD REDUCE TRANSMISSION

Even fully vaccinated people can still become infected with SARS-CoV-2 and, according to recent research, can carry a viral load similar to those who are unvaccinated.

A new study suggested that chewing gum laced with a plant-grown protein could serve as a potential “trap” for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It could reduce viral load in saliva and potentially reduce transmission.

he work, led by Henry Daniell at Penn’s School of Dental Medicine and performed in collaboration with scientists at the Perelman School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as at The Wistar Institute and Fraunhofer USA, could lead to a low-cost tool in the arsenal against the COVID-19 pandemic. Their study was published in the journal Molecular Therapy.

“SARS-CoV-2 replicates in the salivary glands, and we know that when someone who is infected sneezes, coughs, or speaks some of that virus can be expelled and reach others,” says Daniell. “This gum offers an opportunity to neutralize the virus in the saliva, giving us a simple way to possibly cut down on a source of disease transmission.”

Before the pandemic, Daniell studied the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) protein in the context of treating hypertension. Using a patented plant-based production system, his lab had grown this protein and many others that may have therapeutic potential.

Daniell’s past work on ACE2 proved advantageous in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The receptor for ACE2 on human cells also happens to bind the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Other research groups have shown that injections of ACE2 can reduce viral load in people with severe infections.

Meanwhile, another line of work by Daniell and Penn Dental Medicine colleague Hyun (Michel) Koo has involved research in developing a chewing gum infused with plant-grown proteins to disrupt dental plaque. Pairing his insights about ACE2 with this technology, Daniell wondered if such a gum, infused with plant-grown ACE2 proteins, could neutralize SARS-CoV-2 in the oral cavity.

The research team is currently obtaining permission to conduct a clinical trial to evaluate whether the approach is safe and effective when tested in people infected with SARS-CoV-2.

The key word there is: discontinuous.

Nature abhors discontinuous functions, and the whole theory of natural evolution is (perfectly justifiably so) predicated on continuous functions.

Every natural mutation must have a sequence of other natural mutations that have led to it, hence the continuity of the mutation function.

If you find a discontinuous mutation (one that is not preceded by a natural mutation), then the only reasonable conclusion is that mutation is artificial.

Now, it is very much possible for a naturally evolved organism to lose some of its mutations over time, but losing a mutation is still a mutation that must be preceded by other mutations that have led to it, so that's really the same difference.

Also, it is true that discontinuous mutations can also happen in nature, due to radioactive disruption of existing biological functions (encoded with RNA/DNA) in an organism, for example, but the probability of that organism to survive such a disruption is unbelievably small.

The probability of 25 such disruptions appearing simultaneously, while not outright killing/destroying the fundamental functionality of the organism in question (SARC-CoV-2 Omicron variant in this case) is like 25 orders of magnitude smaller.

One doesn't have to be a microbiologist to understand all of this if one knows how natural selection works (to summarize): continuous mutation chains = allowed, discontinuous mutation chains = strictly forbidden.
