My daughter struggles with her emotions, as most teenage children do. She has PTSD and what they claim to be "DMDD" Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder.
She was at school, after being totally fine, normal, unmedicated and still doing well. She got into an argument with a friend, and went to her counselor and after HOURS of sitting in the counselors office (without them letting me know there was any problems) she called me to tell me they were doing a psychiatric eval on her at school. I went to the school, and they wouldn't allow me in the room.
After about 10 minutes they come out of the room and the woman who "evaluated her" in a whopping 10 minutes says she isn't stable and must go straight to our local psych hospital. I have no choice but to take her because if I don't, they're gonna take my kids for neglect. So off we go.
We get there, they don't ask her ANYTHING. Nothing. They just admit her to a mental health facility and don't ask me anything either. They take her belongings, stick her in the back of a cop car and I follow them up there, and they kept her for a week without us being allowed to contact her at all aside from a 5 minute monitored phone call per day.
They called me once a day to ask me about meds. I told them I didn't want her on a pharmacy full of pills, and they still ended up giving her 3, including a fucking insomnia med when she doesn't have insomnia. Trouble sleeping is a SIDE EFFECT of the other bullshit.
Anyways, just ranting about how shitty the mental health care in the US is right now, and about how they're fucking our kids up without our permission. I can't pull her off the meds without tapering or she'll withdrawal and the chances of suicidal thoughts and actions are like triple. Her little brain is suffering so much and she's melting down to the point I have to restrain her and she says things like "I would rather be dead than to be like this". She is 13 and was never like this before they stuck her on these medications. I fucking hate it, and after 2 months of waiting for a psychiatric referral from our doctor, we still haven't gotten one.
No real point to this post, just needed to get that out because I'm home alone with my kids, and hearing your child say they want to die rather than live with their own mind is so painful and there's literally nothing I can do because she only sees her own thoughts and no one else's.
