I remember being a little kid and the light bulb going off that it was describing music through the decades..and eventually the divisions among people that seemed to be hurting the music..or the music itself becoming a tool for people to hurt eachother..Somehow it became tied to the idea and death of democracy as it aged..Really like a prophetic poem that is true:).. |

Quoting: Me 77275337 Yes. I 'wax nostalgic' when I hear that song, and it brings a tear. I remember hearing it first when I was a very young child in the 70s. A time that I equate with innocence (though that was just me being a clueless kid.) LOL Music has changed so much since then. It feels nefarious to me, but what do I know. Same as politics. LOL I still love listening to music, but I am more careful with regard to what I listen to these days. |

Pretty much of an asshole. The guy wrote one great song--that's it. Quoting: Billy Ringo Don McLean's wife cites years of abuse leading to his arrest She wrote that in the early years of their marriage, McLean's rage was "unfathomably deep and scary." She said McLean's abuse often left her bruised, and that she feared for her life when she called 911 this week. "Don terrorized me for four hours, until the 911 call that I think might have saved my life," she wrote. |

I decided to make the thread and inquire regarding the magic bit because of a 'vibe' I got off of him in the interview. Seems super pompous. |

One of the most popular songs in American history, 50 years later, rings pretty true. McLean postulates that music and politics are tied. Makes sense. Both shape CULTure. I have oftentimes thought about the meaning of that song, so I thought I would share this for others who have as well. [youtube] [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] That song is waaaaay overrated and it never seems to end it is too long. It isnt anything special. You have bad taste. |
