Even that arrangement was alarming from a civil liberties and privacy perspective, but it was apparently only the tip of the iceberg. OC Weekly’s R. Scott Moxley characterizes the more extensive program shown in the new filings as an effort “to sidestep the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition against warrantless invasions of private property.” In January, the FBI testified against Dr. Mark Albert Rettenmaier, 62, a gynecological oncologist, facing child pornography charges after Geek Squad technicians supposedly located an image of a young naked girl on his computer in 2011. The image was discovered in a section of Rettenmaier’s hard drive where deleted files are stored when he brought it to a Best Buy store for repairs. Less than fifty per cent. Seems like a perfect match - the "repairers" and those motivated to know what's inside someone's computer, but I would not have thought of it. Certain minds run certain ways, no? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78272613 FAIL How about, AC fail, you read the article? Look a little smarter that way. James Riddet, Rettenmaier’s defense lawyer, claims “the FBI was dealing with a paid agent inside the Geek Squad who was used for the specific purpose of searching clients’ computers for child pornography and other contraband or evidence of crimes,” according to a court filing obtained by the Los Angeles Times. What about white supremacists? Etc etc etc Prayer is the most powerful force on earth. “I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.” Abraham Lincoln I sign all karma given. Anyone dropping off computers at the best buy is borderline retarded to start with. A criminal dropping off computers there is a couple of steps lower. Maybe at the drooling idiot stage. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75693206 Have to agree with you. I don't actually leave my computer anywhere, unless I send it to the friend in another state who built it for me. Taking it to a business and leaving it, or inviting strangers into my home - not happening. That's just not common sense.
