QUESTION OF THE DAY: SELF-REFLECTION IS ESSENTIAL FOR SURVIVAL

This, below, is such an important question: we only see what we recognize and what we look for, for example if we are looking for a new pair of black shoes, we will start seeing black shoes all over the place. They will attract our attention. If, as a woman, we are pregnant, we will suddenly spot pregnant women all over the place, and we did not see them before because they were not in our consciousness before.

Things which are outside of our consciousness are rare acknowledged: there is the well known story of the natives of America/the Caribbean, who simply did not see the ships of Columbus because they had never seen a ship of that size before.

If we go back to a personal level, we see IN OTHERS the traits which we have ourselves. So if we think someone is lively and positive, this is a REFLECTION off the positive sides in ourselves, and if we think some one is bad at communicating, this is a REFLECTION of our own inability to communicate properly. Thus this would be an INVITATION to communicate more.

Once the truth of all this is realized, then we look back an review our entire lives, seeing where problems ensued. Those people who annoyed us, deceived us, did not communicate with us, were all a reflection of ourselves. Even in very serious cases, say rape, we can ask ourselves HOW HAVE I BEEN EXPLOITING /RAPING MYSELF? This is simply a process to help us learn more about ourselves.

This is an important question, because so many tend to remain in passive or even "victim" mode, not taking over responsibility gor themselves, waiting for a savior or guru or politician or king to take the reigns and make everything OK again. In response to the title of this thread, what you are saying is that if someone denies you the ability to make your own plans and goals and get yourself situated and oriented and demands all of your attention and focus they are in essence through indirect means trying to kill you.

Well: I would say that self-reflection is mainly a choice we make - whether we reflect on why something went well, or why something went wrong, or whether we just accept it as "one of those things", even if it may repeat itself again and again. With self-reflection over a period of time, considering all aspects of a situation, especially a repetitive situation, we will come to the conclusion that we are partly responsible.

With this comes a great "aha" moment, because if we realize HOW we are responsible, then we simultaneously realise HOW we can change it. Thus can we change the course of very grave situations, in our own personal lives and in the HISTORY OF THE PLANET.

Such grave situation is NOW on the planet. Without self-refelction, this period is going to be very difficult for some people. Lack of self-reflection will indeed lead to our collective demise, if we do not wake up and take on responsibility for the EFFECTS of our collective negligent behaviour, which is made up of billions of individual behaviours. Hence this thread to investigate individual behaviour.

One could of course say that some people have never been "taught" how to self-reflect, and that they are therefore at a disadvantage. This may well be the case, yet our lives are guided, whatever stage we are at, and there will be signs in place to show the way, or obstacles placed in front of us if we deviate and which constitute learning opportunities.

Yet others are very unlikely to develop any sort of deep thinking or moral compass because they are "wired" differently, and are partially robotoid. Progress can be made, but only with great effort.

Basically what you say, Beyond, is correct. Complete domination - to the extent that all capability for independent thinking has been taken away - will result in zombie-like non-human machines. Whether this necessarily kills is a different matter. I would say that what actually kills is the lack of love.

A note about this question: what is despair? It is the conviction that this is THE END, that we are powerless to change a dreadful situation, that there is no help anywhere, that we must resign ourselves to an unalterable or hideous situation. It is also, sometimes, the inability to bear the sight of suffering, and the conviction that one can do nothing to change it.

Despair is the result if we CUT OURSELVES OFF FROM OUR DIVINE CONNECTIONS. If we are aligned with our divine core, we will know about our endless potential on an eternal journey which is a journey of learning during which the most difficult obstacles serve as our best learning lessons. If we are aware of this all the time, it is impossible to fall into despair.

So this is an essential question. How does one gain belief in divine guidance? First of all it is necessary to entertain the idea that there IS Divine guidance - that our chance meetings or opportunities or "near escapes" are not actually happening "by chance" but are part of a sequence of linked events. They are not "coincidences", but orchestrated. They have a pattern. If we start to hold awareness of this possibility in our mind, without it becoming an obsession, then we will start to recognize more and more clearly WHICH DIRECTION Divine hand is trying to send us in. This can be done by POINTING THE WAY, or by PUTTING OBSTACLES IN OUR WAY which make us reflect, learn, and make new and better choices. The more we observe this process, the more we are absolutely convinced that there is something greater than ourselves, directing us FOR OUR OWN GOOD and ultimately FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS.

I did the skeletons in the closet thing about 30 years ago. You can make them smaller, you cannot make them disappear. In this case fixing what went wrong when I was 3 years old is not going have anything to do today.
The lies I have been fed by 'professionals' this century is more than enough motivation to put some things in their path that is sure to make them stumble a bit.

You are so right, Wayfaring stranger. One cannot make something not exist, or a past event disappear. One can take a good hard look at it and learn from it, and the more one manages to look at it more objectively, the less the memory of it will "interfere" with what is happening in the present.

To be totally "in the now" (which also means being able to take advantage of all beneficial opportunities presented to us) means acting as if one has no past, and as if one is not fearful of the future.

3 years old is of course very young. Yet I once knew a woman who was raped at 4 year's old by her grandfather. He said he would shoot her whole family if she told anyone, so she did not. But she could never keep any other secrets. She always said "Don't tell me any secrets, because I cannot keep them".

The upswing of this is that she was always honest and "in your face". She turned into a formidable therapist who helped hundreds of people (including myself). She contacted her grandfather on the "other side", and found out that she had a very violent streak in a past life.

I am not saying that all 3 year olds are raped because of karma coming back at them. I am saying that there may be a bigger picture, and that though traumatic, some other sort of benefit may be gained from the experience on considerable self-reflection.

This question may jar terribly for some, because life at the moment may seem the very opposite of an adventure. However, the reason for this is our focus on the OUTSIDE instead of the INSIDE. We can go on "real" voyages of discovery", but it is the opening of new perspectives in our MINDS which provide the ultimate fulfillment. In the material we are apt to say "I cant do this" and "I can't do that", yet in our minds, we can let our imaginations take off.
