A hospital 'never designed to handle a population with a criminal background'. “These are not normal mental patients,” said Catherine Mortiere, a forensic psychologist at Kirby. “They are some of the most violent inmates in the state.” :jd_gahh: What could possibly go wrong?? :jd_gahh: :jd-L_noendwell: |

""not NORMAL "" psych patients" as a quote from a FORENSICS shrink ? whatttsa matta sweetheart ? no sedation and MAINTENANCE regime on the island ? no psychotropics ? no more discipline w/ double locked doors as the norm ? those gates ? snowflakes soiling their pants at the sight of secured areas ? are the inmates running the place ? let's get real,OK ? let's begin with the designated sections of Manhattan State that ALWAYS had a seperate freeeeeekin unit for forensics-along w/their other units. ...went thru there as a part of a nursing school rotation for psych. 3 days a week back in the early 70s when you still received an authentic hands on exposure to nursing. Definitely there are worse freely roaming the subways and streets of nyc. |

Go there and take it up with the NYTimes. And I ain't your sweetheart. :jd_fencing: Altho I do get your points made. They still are planning this change, despite the risks, etc. No mention made, of course, in the article, of what they intend TO DO with the island the Kirby Psych Center sits on. Sure must be some valuable real estate right there. Think of how many ultra-luxurious condos for the very wealthy could be squeezed onto that island.. rather than a place for the mentally ill and homeless that currently reside there. |
