When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. jimi Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see. I'm just a product of insufficient modality. Humans of Earth! I have come in peace. You need not fear me. I mean you no harm. However, it may be important to know that most of you will not survive the next 24 hours. And those of you who do survive will be enslaved and experimented on. You should in no way take any of this personally — it's just business! |

And it's all organic. Quoting: DhiqCheez 74646345 not if they live mostly indoors and well fed cats don't hunt by intent pretty much.. will catch the mothies that are toys to them mostly. the mother cat i have has had two litters and we have kept them all and she got fixed today so im sighing a breath of relief. so all together i have eight. they are all well fed with dry food and wet and they eat raw hamburger and raw chicken as well as scraps. the thing is, she is a hunter through and through. we are quite rural and shes constantly catching and eating rats and the frogs out in the front little pond. she eats the entire thing, even the tails. hell, she just got fixed TODAY and she went outside (that first shit is so nasty smelling with all the meds leaving her system) and she went out and got a rat not two hours after she got home. i didnt let her eat it this time, first time! i threw it out of the house. normally she eats them outside, but not this time. i think she will ALWAYS be hunting even with full bowls of food. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 65258342 United States 12/06/2019 09:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks ! Quoting: Kitteh 4049272 as a way to keep the thread going and in the top, would like to know what everyone feeds their Kittehs ? btw, my little buddy got a patch of catnip planted for him outdoors next to my garden, but he still prefers the celery planted in the veggie garden. Found out that celery is milder than catnip. Cats either love it or walk away. Next time you buy celery, show them them leaves and let them take a whiff and you'll know if they like it or not. Good to get the greens in them too ! I grow Oat sprouts for mine to devour as "Kitty grass". The seeds I buy at a Feed/Seed store for about .85/lb [that's ALOT of Oat seeds!]. They sprout in 3-5 days and look like a miniature lawn when planted in a cookie sheet lined with a thin layer of soil. They don't even require much light - just keep the soil moist. Greens such as this are essential for the Folic Acid they contain and the roughage also acts as a disgestive aid. The trouble comes when one of them decides to roll around in their lawn and crush the sprouts flat... but, another day or so out of their reach and the tray is ready for another buffet! BTW: I have also tried growing Alfalfa and Sweet Clover sprouts but Oats seem to be their favorite. But ALL those seeds are dirt-cheap when bought at a feed/seed store where they are sold from bulk bins. The exact same seeds are repackaged and sold in much smaller quantities as "Kitty Grass" at a HUGE markup! Likewise I buy Organic Catnip from a wholesaler by the pound and save a bundle. I've tried growing, it, but they always nibble the plants down to nothing in NO time! Thanks.. I need to start some for indoors eating ... its winter. they like barley sprouts too. Actually I just sprout the seeds in a pot of dirt for them to munch on. I buy oat groats for myself and ditto the other grains.. so yes.. CHEAP. If one likes oatmeal.. just sprout groats for 2 or 3 days...and pour your milk etc on them.. you can warm them to 115 degrees and still count them as raw. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 65258342 United States 12/06/2019 09:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't eat meat.. so none around here usually unless I get some for them.. they will eat well cooked pot roast etc.. but they will not eat any store bought chicken raw or cooked.. They smell the chemicals and walk away. Not pork either EXCEPT pork from a local mexican store which has clean pork... natural pork minus chemicals... they will eat that. They eat canned tuna in water and canned salmon too. A neighbor gave me some fishy raw salmon she could not stand.. too fishy and they eat that. I feed all crunchies except the morning tuna or salmon... which is a treat and they like having breakfast with me in the morning... all my cats have loved nutritional Yeast.. I found that out when some previous cats found and torn up a bag.. but they won't eat every brand.. there is one I had ordered online and they will NOT eat it... and its doesn't taste as good... to me.. one day it when I am sorting food stuffs.. out to the garden that one will go. |

Buy those. Grocery store and lower end pet foods ARE poison already, just like our foods. Why would you want a pet to live an "average " life, I already have a rescue Cat that's 13 years old, another that's 11, and I'm planning on another 10 years for each of them. They try to tell you the average is 7 years, um, no. Then I have another set of three sisters all two years old. It was a mistake but it's all I have or care about. Now I'm stuck with them. |

Does she think I wouldn't take the cat if I knew it was in pain? It has bad breath most pets do! People are total morons, I don't trust most people with higher degrees anymore to be competent. This was a freaking RESCUED cat, being treated at a volunteer clinic! They don't even do teeth. The ENTIRE SYSTEM is screwed and all based on syphoning as much money and energy from each other as possible. I'll try to find another way to get the cats treated now, the bitch! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 65258342 United States 12/06/2019 09:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I feed several dry foods for variety... they will eat Blue but its expensive and I only get it on sale with coupons. My 2 regulars which I do order online are Taste of the wild.. the trout/salmon one which I get for the fish. And Chicken Soup for the soul... Rachael Ray in small bags ... they like one of those only a very small amount of corn gluten... I buy only small bags. One LOVES I AM's.. but I give this only as treats... because of the corn content. And trying grain free Abound .. I fill their feeding pan with mostly the first two above.. and smaller amounts of the others.. they love having these choices. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 65258342 United States 12/06/2019 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm really angry with the last vet who gave them the yearly shots. She tried to make me feel guilty about not having a Cats teeth cleaned! Man I wanted to let that idiot have it in the noggin, fucking moron, when I find out it's in the hundreds of dollars, two to three visits to a low brow area, and, potentially THOUSANDS of dollars if teeth have be pulled and whatever. I used to volunteer in a private cheap spay clinic which also took in rejected cats... and teeth cleaning and teeth pulling take MINUTES ..... and very cheap to do. What a rip off. We spayed cats for $25 and dogs according to weight and size.. because of more anesthesia cost. I was the only volunteer... and the place covered all its costs easily on such fees.. I think both tooth pulling and cleaning were $25 each ...all this covered all the boarding we did of relinguished animals which always included a spray or neuter.. We requested donations for relinquished animals. I am sure the cost has gone up because this was before I gave up driving in 2009... And of course we didn't have expensive medical equipment.. our surgeon was a fully qualified vet.. who worked on site. We had a paid other person and I volunteered because they had no paid person on Mondays. I am a nurse with Operating room experience and so that was a NICE volunteer job. There was a paid person. .now that I remember who came in early to clean cages. and walk some of the dogs. |

As to the tuna comment above on the Taurine... My morning treat for my 2 cats... a 5 oz can lasts 4 days.. they get a spoonful each ... and some of that yeast they love. It is "human" tuna not cat tuna packed in water/broth... 79 cents a can so this breakfast treat cost me I guess 20 Cents a day. I have no idea what my monthly cost for the dry food even is. |

Quoting: Chay-Ophan I've got three cats, two dogs and, stereotypes be damned, I'm very much a "cat guy" (dogs actually belong to gf). In all the ways that matter (to me) the lives of my cats hold more value than that of the average human. Seriously don't know how I'd react if one of them was killed by defective catfood. Pretty sure it would involve massive property damage with some (unfortunate, naturally) loss of life. I guess the take-away here is fuck with my cats at your own peril. Thanks again for the info. As you can see you may very well have saved human lives as well so yeah, there's that for the Christmas spirit! I made the mistake of feeding Starkist tuna to my cats as a treat. Big mistake. They will eat nothing else now, but I guess it's safer but more expensive. The strays are not picky. Actually tuna is the only fish that will cause cats to waste away if that is all they eat. Cats need the amino acid taurine from food and cannot make it inside body like humans. Tuna has no taurine amino acid...this is critical for all cats. Buy different food or buy taurine powder and add it to the tuna or the cats will literally starve even while eating |
