Biggest difference here is anonymous posters being allowed. I actually think that is a good thing. But, with those anonymous posters comes a whole lot of shit talking. And if you get too far caught up in it, you can lose your temper and say something that could get you banned.

And I say that is another good thing believe it or not. This is the world we live in. New generation has attention span for 2 sentences it seems, no patience to research even though research is more available now than it ever was in history. Have to find ways to cut through the noise. Have to develop skills that can still be effective through a mountain of shills/trolls/bots.

World is always changing, have to evolve with it and find a way. You don't lose until you give up.


Don't like message, attack messenger. 9 out of 10 times the messenger's ego kicks in and they make it about themselves instead of the message they intended.

It's true, this is a bait thread that you knew it would go down like that. So what's the point? This is it, this is what we have to work with.

I explain things by stories a lot, some people think I'm full of shit, whatever. It relates a human side to an issue and people can see where I'm coming from and why maybe. Others can think I'm full of crap, but really, so what?

Positions/issues, laws even are nothing, have no power.
It's not until people are affected by these do they have any power. They can try to fool you that this or that has power over your life but it doesn't ring true in the heart.

Take this whole man-made global warming thing. It has not been a devastating threat in my life. It just hasn't no matter how many people want to say it's going to doom me in. their message does not resonate with me so they try to get Greta to resonate it. Her accent just comes off snobby to me and she does not resonate with me either.

Fine if the global warming threat resonates with other people who are scared shitless that earth is going to get too hot or cold and kill us all. It just will never get me frantic enough to pay them more money to supposedly fix it.

If you really were giving up and waiting for the elite to finish it, you would not have started this thread...

What am I supposed to "listen to? What was the message other than "you're a shill", "fuck you" "You're a racist", "You're baiting" or "Fuck you society is fine"?

Having lived in NJ for 4 years seeing everything I saw, the rat race, the abundance of mass diversity, and the horrendous traffic, I was shocked when I recently moved back South to find the exact same thing going on to a large degree.

Before I left to go up North I was pretty content with my surroundings in this Southern state. After coming back Its as if things simply became a spitting image of what I was experiencing up north near the Heart of the Beast so to speak.

People driving like wild animals, Not many people making eye contact and saying Hello or waving, ( which you would think is a typical southern quality), People being disrespectful in public settings, not showing much mercy when it comes to common courtesy.. and etc..

I agree that this modern age has formed people largely into an overly selfish (narcissistic) state. The family structure has been greatly attacked. I would really like to know how many people are actually gathering with not only immediate family for Thanksgiving, but rather extended family (Which is how it USE TO BE for me!);If they are even having a gathering with close family at all is also something to make note of. IDC if you dont agree with Thanksgiving history etc, it has always been a time of Family gathering PERIOD.

To try and examine what the OP is trying to get at, from my perspective, Society is finished, THIS Society. This modern society in which we are all involved in. Doesnt mean its the End of the world as we know it. Things have gone way off kilter and quite frankly the only thing that seems to be holding it up are the Interwebz, The smart phones, the amazon 1 day delivery, the fast food door dash drivers, the liquor stores and dispensaries.

All Bread and Circuses. Thats where we are I feel. History does repeat itself to a degree and as optimistic or pessimistic as one may be, their is no way in hell someone can deny the fact that we are in fact living in a Society based primarily on quick fixes, distractions, and numbing agents.

This is true. Although I can't say that I've let my ego escape me too badly considering the sheer level of attacks. By and large I was forced to be on the defensive, as people were using just about every name and label in the book. I really did try and keep it somewhat civil, no different than this reply. No, actually I had no idea how it would go down. Sure, GLP is indeed rather toxic, but I can't say that I would of thought that over 80% of the responses on this particular thread would literally be attacks. In a forum where every other post is literally about "doom", no, I can't say that I would have guessed that a thread about societal decline, would have gone this way. It's rather ironic, actually.

The point of opening the discussion, was to see how many others agree with my perspective. Pretty simple, really. Instead, most took the opportunity to stoop to ad hominem attacks. Again, people have free will. No one is forcing anyone here to be a complete asshole. If people responded without attacking, we'd be having a completely different discussion. And here we are: instead of discussing causes of why society is in the shitter or even solutions, we're literally just discussing whether the thread was a "bait" thread. It's rather sad. Instead of discussion, A mod even took a moment to shit all over the thread and somehow managed to make the conversation about "me". If that's not baiting a thread, then I don't know what is.

Who said that I was above anyone? I even stated in this very thread that I have faults, no different than anyone else. I also stated there are some good people here. So, you're clearly not reading. With all of that anger and those false accusations, it seems like you're the one who might be possessed. You also seem to put way too much stock into imaginary karma on a website. GLP karma is hardly a barometer for whether a person is decent or not decent.

I don't doubt that you hold doors open for people, I really don't. I don't doubt that you may even be a great person. However, it always comes back to the numbers. There are literally nearly 8 billion people on this planet. How many of those 8 billion hold doors open for others? The problem is that one cannot simply only point out the "decent" people on this planet as a means to somehow dismiss the majority of people who don't show the same decency and civility. You have got to look at the aggregate when it comes to evaluating a society or the human race, in general.

In regards to people not "trash talking" in person the way that they do online, how is that remotely excusable? They're still the one's typing the hateful rhetoric. If they don't do so offline, merely because of fear of consequence, that's hardly a defense or the definition of a decent person.

Again, we're not talking about who's a murderer or not. I'm simply saying that most people (ie the majority) are typically rather rude and are too self absorbed within their bubble. That's really what my post was about. Someone else had mentioned that the only time that society shows any decency en masse, is during or after a tragedy. As for me personally, there's hope. My hope my not align with yours, but that's ok.

I’m not saying it’s excusable for people to talk the way they do online, but you can’t base societal issues with people that only type the garbage verses the way a person actually acts in public. What I’m saying is that it is simply irrelevant what people say online. Mostly everyone I come across in public are very nice. That’s why I try to be nice and lead by example. And out of the 8 billion people, look at how very little and just a super minor of a fraction of it is put on a pedestal and amplified in the media. It really Is just a small amount making life difficult for others. That’s just how I feel. And there are others like me. And others like you. I have just realized that online life and real life really are 2 different categories

I dont think its excusable to simply think that someone can be online acting like a fool, talking trash, viewing trash and acting like something or someone they are not, and then in the real world acting and being the nicest and most polite person that youd ever think you saw.

Its unacceptable for people to simply hide behind computer screens behaving like complete fools, and to think that they are excused from Life because no one really knows who they are or cares.

If someone has the nerve to pretend and to create issues for themselves and others online and act like a saint in public and has no issue, they are lacking either a conscience or a Soul. I hate to say it but its unacceptable. You simply can not hide from Reality by using the computer screen as a face mask and expect no consequences.
