The entire point of my thread was that decent exchanges can hardly exist these days, due to people being abhorrently fucked and self absorbed. This thread is literally proving my point, reply after reply after reply. You can throw in your little nugget as yet another reply.

So again, there's little decently and respect left. As I said before, I'll gladly take that tampon so that I can use it to stop the bleeding of my heart as I watch the overwhelming ignorance on this thread unfold. As always, GLP certainly didn't disappoint.

I'd argue that hate filled, mindless 5th grade level rhetoric is what sells these days.

OP, it seems that you've been hurt and disappointed by your own experiential interactions and observations. I believe that most of us have suffered this type of devouring angst at some points in our lives. But, don't give up just yet.

Nowadays, whenever I feel weariness from my perceived mismatch between my ideal image of how the world should be with how it really is, it helps me to take action to make positive differences for others. Sincere acts of kindness in spoken words and anonymous deeds do help. It works for me by refocusing my attention and it works for others by sparking optimism in their spirit.

Try all of the following for EACH of SEVEN consecutive days and see if you feel differently ... see if those around you seem pleasantly different.

* do something kind for someone without announcing it was you
* say something sincerely kind to someone you know
* say something genuinely kind to a stranger
* thank someone that you truly appreciate
* be thoughtfully honest and authentic with others
* find something to be thankful about
* listen, really listen to what others have to say

Repeat each of those the next seven days too ... and ...

* start learning a new skill
* do something interesting you've never done before, but wanted to
* volunteer by joining a group or organization whose mission you're also passionate about
* when you help others, don't expect anything in return
* use humor to smooth rough edges in challenging situations

This is an over-simplification of my personal recovery technique from prior instances of weltschmerz.

You can't change the world in a day, a week, or a month. But, you CAN change what is closest to you. You can ultimately change the world for the better ... one person at a time, starting with yourself.

Sometimes, folks ask me why I'm such an optimist. My answer is that I am not an optimist. I am a recovering pessimist. And, FYI, those are my 12 steps.
