I dreamed...

I looked and the man...and I said to him that we could go off together and find a place to be. He shook his head and looked sad and forlorn, and went back to painting his part of the wall. I tried to get his attention but he seemed unable to see me.

As I tried to get his attention, I realized it was a dream, that I was dreaming, and that somewhere in the real world my soulmate was also dreaming.

I put down the paintbrush without painting anything, and I left the basement, retracing all the steps I had taken to get there. I reached the place where I had begun dreaming, and then I woke up.
