Early 19th century Europe was not very different from Saudi Arabia. Women were escorted if they went out, and they wore modest clothes, even still some Christian's wear headscarves. They didn't hold office and couldn't vote.

The point was to put liberals in the position of agreeing that Islam is right about women, or saying the signs were wrong and insulting Islam. Liberals can't do either as a rule.
