Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77252858 Yes they are. They devalued the yuan which makes anything they import from anywhere more expensive for them. Kinda funny that they devalued their currency by the same percentage as we tariff their imports. Taking in the whole picture. China lowered the cost of their products by 10% to offset the roughly 10% tariff the US imposes on their goods. But this makes everything they import from other countries 10% more expensive. So they're paying. If you can wrap your head around what I said. So yes. US Importers are paying 10% import tariffs. But the cost to buy goods from China fell 10%. They see no loss of profit. US prices stayed flat. Everyone is happy except China who will pay for it with inflation. |

They've jumped up just recently. I'll be glad when they fall again. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23097243 I think that isn’t what’s going to happen. Grain farmers grow soybeans for Chinese plastic and corn for ethanol. Trump is going along with the UNs plan to scrape people off the land and dump us into major city centers. Something I have in common with my grandfather is that both our mothers were born in the house I’m in right now. Seven generations of us have lived here. I found an arrowhead in the garden this summer! And chards of pottery. I picked one up and could just see young grandma walking out the back kitchen door to see that a sauerkraut had exploded! You will read and see tv about what bad people we were. We had a good run. Seven generations on land we owned, living simply and peacefully, not one of us who lived in this house ever went to war, killed an Indian, worked the slave trade. I doubt food prices will go down because we have no market for plastic beans. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77917582 China’s exit piles on to a devastating year for farmers, who have struggled through record flooding and an extreme heat wave that destroyed crop yields, and trade war escalations that have lowered prices and profits this year. “It’s really, really getting bad out here,” said Bob Kuylen, who’s farmed for 35 years in North Dakota. “Trump is ruining our markets. No one is buying our product no more, and we have no markets no more.” Agriculture exports to China dropped by more than half last year. In 2017, China imported $19.5 billion in agricultural goods, making it the second-largest buyer overall for American farmers. In 2018, that dropped to $9.2 billion as the trade war escalated, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. China’s exit will most impact U.S. grain farmers. China is the world’s top buyer of American soybeans, buying about 60% of U.S. soybean exports last year. Analysts estimate that soybean prices have dropped 9% since the beginning of the trade war. Soybean exports to China have dropped by 75% from September 2018 to May 2019, compared to the same nine-month period in 2017 and 2018, according to data from the USDA. “It’s killing us,” said Mark Watne, a wheat and soybean farmer who is president of the North Dakota Farmers Union. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77827153 The only way we can avoid harm is to let them continue as they have. We just can’t afford to lose them. All you do is make American farm families unable to pay taxes so they must sell their land which is their wealth to big multinational corporations or Russian and Chinese investors. You will see the old hand build barns and houses will get scraped with the nit trees, and garden fences come down and tractors the soze of small airports operated by drone farmers in Beijing or Hong kong will grow plastic beans for their manufacturing . It’s called vertical integration. Trump is killing small American farmers. Our families can drive around and point out where grandmas mother lived in a covered wagon as they built their log cabin. Some of our houses are built around those log cabins. Trump the son of a Scottish immigrant scrubwoman is stripping this nation of its history. Why don’t you just drop smallpox blankets on them? Local manufacturing jobs are owned by Japanese companies. It’s not Japanese people’s fault a good job pays $12.50. That’s just the price of labor now. You won’t tell me if we run them off Chrysler will come back. You can get by on local wages if you have a farm income and a garden, chickens and cows. If you’re in an apartment in town you are rent subsidized and slowly dying of despair and malnutrition. |
