They can "capture" lightening (flying model rocket with a copper wire spool launched during a thunder storm)...but they have nothing to "store" the energy with.

I'm thinking perhaps the Russians testing EMP weapons in the Arctic; lightning detectors work by detecting the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) emitted by a lightning strikes , placed on the ground and satellites.

Thundersnow is a rare event but not unheard of, I have personally seen it myself.

It would not be that uncommon up there in the North Pole or South Pole.

Not warm there,

We associate lightning with storms and rain, perhaps is not the only atmospheric condition to generate it and didn't happen near North Pole; it also occurs during volcanic eruptions , without rain, just dry volcanic ash.

Mother Nature is closing in on the return event and she is showing us. The rare sprytes and upward volcanic lightnings are becoming less rare at a time when the Arctic is burning. People will eventually wake up!! It isn't Rome burning that we need worry about.

Could be 5G or it could be as simple as a warmer atmospheres hold more water. 5G is new, the more extreme monsoons detected in AZ's atmosphere have been monitored in rain gauges since the mid 70's. Same amount of annual rain delivered over a shorter times = more frequent annual flash-flooding.
